Woodbine Motorsports puts the 2015 Mustang EcoBoost to the dyno test

The 2015 Mustang news is coming fast and furious these days, and we’ve been waiting to see some production-car chassis dyno numbers on the EcoBoost version. Well, the folks at Woodbine Motorsports recently picked one up and strapped it down to the company’s in-house Dynojet. If you’ve been curious too, we think you’ll be impressed by the numbers.
“This is a very solid and well built car. It handles great and runs very strong for a 2.3 four-cylinder,” Joseph Jones of Woodbine Motorsports said. “It has huge brakes front and rear and the suspension is something to be admired. You can tell they put a lot of thought into this next-generation car.”
With a scant 60 miles on the clock, this car wasn’t even close to broken in. However, with 93-octane in the tank, the six-speed manual car put down some solid numbers on the stock calibration. Check it out…
“I think with a simple tune and exhaust modifications this Ecoboost will be a great daily driver, weekend drag car, and road course toy,” Joseph explained. “It’s very capable right out of the box especially with the Performance Package added.”
Considering that the factory flywheel ratings are 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, these are really solid rear-wheel numbers. Now, we’d love to see what one that’s broken-in dynos at, but this EcoBoost Mustang isn’t likely to stay stock long enough for a true comparison.
“The immediate future holds getting some baseline stock quarter-mile times this weekend (weather permitting) and then showcasing what it can do at the following weekend’s Ford Fever Classic at MIR in Southern Maryland. The car will be on display and racing and hopefully by then we will have some solid tunes on the car to try and best the 12.56 at 109 mark Ford Racing set earlier,” Joseph added. “Further down the road and over the winter we will develop our tuning further along with other parts we believe would help the performance of the car, such finding the right combination of wheels and tires for drag racing, suspension upgrades and working with Ford Racing to test the products they are coming out with. We will also be taking this car apart to get familiar with its working systems and to perfect the installation of products such as rear gears.”
