DiabloSport tuning for EcoBoost Mustangs promises big gains

A couple of months ago we let you know that DiabloSport tuning was ready to update your 2015 Mustang GT’s TriCor PCM with hotter tunes. Well, the company is back with tuning for the more complex 2015 Mustang with the EcoBoost 2.3-liter gas turbo direct-injection engine—and the results are pretty impressive.

Here’s a look at DiabloSport’s comparison of the baseline calibration and its two performance tunes. As you can see, both the 91- and 93-octane calibrations offer substantial gains over the stock EcoBoost configuration.

“We optimized the factory timing and fueling maps on our Super Flow chassis dyno through hundreds of pulls to ensure peak performance—and the proof is in the numbers on the dyno sheet!” says the company. “While dyno graphs are great to show that our tunes make power, they do not tell you what a car is going to do on the street. Our tunes increase boost up to 22 psi, and help your EcoBoost Mustang take off like a rocket ship!”

Using one of DiabloSport’s Trinity or InTune handheld tuners, you can upload to install one of two preloaded performance tunes for either 91- or 93-octane fuel. Both promise improved driveability with similar horsepower and torque gains. The 93-octane tune is said to boost your EcoBoost by over 30 horsepower and 55 lb-ft of torque, while the 91-octane tune just trails those gains with substantial increases of 28 horsepower and 48 lb-ft of torque.

The tunes also enhance throttle response, clean up automatic shifting, and raise rev limiters in order to shave seconds off your quarter-mile time,” says DiabloSport. “When we took the car off the dyno and onto the street, there was an immediate difference in the overall drivability. From low- to midrange rpm, power delivery was strong and smooth, along with a nice firm shift. Our tune livened up the EcoBoost Mustang in an instant!”

Even if you don’t want to install a full performance tune, you can use an InTune or Trinity to make minor tweaks to the stock calibration with the Factory HP Tune. And, for those who want even more control, you can also use the DiabloSport devices to upload custom calibrations to your EcoBoost Mustang.
