“When we launched the Mustang Customizer in 2009, it was massively popular,” Andrea Zuehlk, Digital Marketing Manager, said. “With more than 5.4 million custom Mustangs built and more than 1.6 million app downloads since 2012, we knew we had to deliver a redesigned experience to complement the redesigned 2015 Mustang. Ford is the only company to offer a unique app like Mustang Customizer and our fans just can’t get enough of it.”

For a quick primer on how the customizer works, you can watch this video…

As with the previous versions of the customizer apps, you can start with a stock 2015 Mustang and tweak its appearance by altering its paint, wheels, body panels, spoilers, badges, and more. However, not only does the new app feature improved 3D graphics, it will also help you find a similar 2015 Mustang at a local dealer in case you get so excited about your virtual Mustang that you need a real one.

The basics of you virtual combo, including the paint color, trim level and engine choice are entered into Ford’s dealer database during your build. With this info logged, it will help you easily find a similar car in the real world if the digital version isn’t enough.

“Not only is the Mustang Customizer fun, but it allows Mustang fans to visualize their dream Mustang with any number of modifications,” Andrea added. “Once fans build their dream Mustang, we want to give them a head start toward making that dream a reality by identifying a Mustang at a local dealership that is most similar to their creation.”

Even if you don’t want to step up to a real 2015 Mustang, the customizer will eventually gain features that allow you to virtually place your customized rendering into a real-word scene via Google Streetview and bring it to life in videos.

If you need more screen real estate to create your masterpiece, don’t fret. A customizer for desktop computers is set to arrive in the future. And, as if the customizer wasn’t going to sap enough of our productivity, Ford also promises a new virtual racing game later this year.
