Grudges have started already!
As some of you know, I am picking up my boss later today. My good friend with stock C6Z06 already wants a piece of my car. I've been in his car and it is VERY fast and much lighter than the boss.
Should I even bother? I see some of you guys are trapping 119-123 (with tune/intake?) which is very close to C6Z06 territory and the 0-60 times are close for both cars.
One thing I did notice about his Z06 is how much the dam thing spins it's tires...
200 bucks on the line if I accept a race from a dig with him. I have seen him at the track run mid 12's but his trap was 121.
What's everyone's thoughts...my GT trapped 117 with just tune/intake.

Hopefully you have the driver mod, C6Zs are very light and powerful. You shouldn't win, but doesn't mean you can't.
But no, I would not put down 200 on a stock boss vs c6z

Do not race him from a roll or it will get ugly. Z's are roll cars with 4th gearing going to 160+ compared to your 120'ish @7650rpms/oem wheels/tires. You need a full exhaust, intake, tune, and rear wheels/drag tires to outrun him, and that will only happen at the strip....if your kung fu is strong.
If you on playing with a C6Z you might as well go ahead and buy a D1 kit +10psi= faster.

I definitely wouldn't put $200 on it!! I would see if he would run you for 'fun' just to see where you stand and then you can get to modding!!

@TXPD, I think we are wasting our breathe trying to get this guy to a road course where the car can really be appreciated.

LOL...you guys are shot. Not sure if you got the memo but the BOSS is still a live axle Mustang AND it's a very good platform to drag race on.
I understand the car was made to handle as well...i've owned many BETTER handling cars than this including porsches and AWD Audi's.

And your point is? Sounds like you should have kept the GT, and the lower payment.
P.S - I'd love to hear which "much" better handling cars you have own, a side from just throwing out a few different MFG's.

Just because people use it for something other than what you think it should be used for doesn't mean it is wrong!! If a person has the means to buy it they can use it for whatever strikes their fancy!!
It is a high revving 444 HP car that has a solid axle that responds well to power mods. It sounds like a pretty good drag car to me!!

Tell that to the person trapping 141 on just a couple $K of mods. Not even sure what it would take for the Shelby to get there. I'm envious.

Why? I could care less. Racing in a straight line, does nothing for me. Everyone here knows (or so I hope) what the Boss 302 was designed for and after, and what anyone uses it for, is there business.
I guess its better then the person who buys a new Boss 302, tucks in the garage, in theory that it will be gain value 50 yrs. later.

How about trying some old school tricks . . .
Disconnect the front sway bar, put some slicks or drag radials on it (drag radials might be to inconsistant) and practice on how to get weight transfer on the street and drill him out of the gate. That'll get his anxiety level up and probably push him into making a mistake and smoking his tires trying to play catch up. I've raced plenty of faster cars on the street and the guy that hooks and gets out first usually wins. The Z06 is fast (one of my buddy's has one) but racing one from a dead stop on the street is all driver !
My two cents
Thanks
S

I guess the hop is in the upper control arm. I probably would look into that. Dont forget about the tires. They are the great equilizer ! I ran 16 lbs on my nitto's and it hooked awesome. I did have to take it a little easier on the street launch though. Bring some vht too !
I really think you have a shot against the Z06 but you have to put some lengths on him out of the gate.
Ps you'll probably have to ride the clutch out a little instead of just popping it
