LINE Mod Valve.....Who has it, and what does it feel like?
I just purchased the Line Mod Valve from JDM, and I'm wondering how it feels after the install? Any explanations are appreciated.

Hey Speedin - I've got the line mod valve, pan and filter as well. There was a post around here somewhere from Wyldman (I believe) saying not to change from the stock filter in that deep pan. I asked why but never did see a response. You heard anything like that?
I'll be doing the mod with I lift the truck up to work on the rear springs. Might as well do it all at once.
Originally posted by Ebbsnflows I notice that everyone does the "pan install".....why? Does the stock lightning unit just not hold enuff fluid for the increased pressure??
The reason you install the 4X4 pan is it has a drain plug in it. The stock one has no drain plug. If you do the modulator valve then I would suggest you change the pan at the same time along with the filter(not sure why Chuck said to use a new stock filter though). The 4X4 pan is deeper and holds approximately 1 extra quart of Mercon 3 and only use Mercon 3.
The install is easy, but messy. Even up on jack stands should take an hour or less. Then the rest of the day is used to clean up the trans fluid in the driveway or garage. Suggest you go to somebody elses place and do it there
It is a great mod.

For those that don't want to change the drain pan, it is possible to cleanly remove and use the old pan. You will need to purchase a drain plug as you will be drilling a hole into the stock pan. Also a drill and a drill bit slightly smaller in diameter than the diameter of the new drain plug will be needed, along with the other necessary tools to install the mod valve.
Take a small piece of masking tape and wrap it around the drill bit a couple times, about 1/2 in from the end of the bit. This will prevent the bit from going too far into the pan. Very slowly, drill a hole in the stock pan where you wan to locate the new plug. By going slow, this will minimize the shavings from getting everywhere, especially inside the pan. Once you break through, let the fluid drain into a drain pan and if needed, finish the hole once the flow stops. Remove pan and finish the job per the instructions.
Clean out the inside of the pan to remove any shavings and install the new plug.
My friend did this earlier this summer on his 49 Ford with no ill effects.
Hey guys, is this mod unnoticable in city driving? Cause I don't want to be driving through town checking out some chicks and break my neck by some unexpected shift!! And does it really get rubber in 2nd in wot???? Cause I'll be going back to JDM for this mod and more on thurs.
Thanks

Not only will it get rubber at WOT mine will sometimes want to go sideways.
Under normal driving if Jim burned your chip the shifts are somewhat wimpy, fast and quick as they should be, but mash the GO PEDAL and hangon

Are you saying a hole MUST be drilled in the stock pan to use this valve? I hope not!
What exactly has to be done to install this valve?
Thanks

I just installed the mod. valve on saturday and i kept the original trans pan... One thing i have notice about it is if you are on the gas slightly the shifts are somewhat normal , but if you are on the gas halfway or more it will kick you back on the shifts... I had my chip reburned for it and if that is a wimpy shift i feel bad for you guys... The install of the mod valve took about 15 minutes total and was mainly due to the old valve not wanting to come out... Very easy install and a big smile afterwards...
Later, Justin

Hammerhead, no, you don't have to drill a hole in the original pan to use/install the mod valve. I was just pointing out the fact that the stock pan can be cleanly removed and upgraded to have a drain plug. This method of drilling a hole to drain it saves on cleanup whether you reuse the stock pan or go with the larger 4x4 pan.
Thanks John I cant wait! But Julie called me up today and had some bad news for me I have to wait till next wednesday now because of some show in Tenna C.
Thanks

just wonder if not using the stock filter with 4x4 tranny pan
caused my tranny to go south on the 00L.
was told i needed the longer pick up tube for the 4x4 tranny pan?

I'm not sure what the deal is with this. I'll have to do some homework before I swap the pans and filters.
Had the out on the highway today and coming from the toll both out to the highway i gunned the truck and the o.d. shift almost threw me out of the truck... I knew it was gonna kick me back but i was not expecting throwing you back into the rear slider... This valve really seem to bring the truck to life... Thanks JDM
