Not to hijack the thread, but going to community college is not a bad idea. With the cost of a college education, most CC's offer a way for people to get their first 2 years of gen ed's out of the way for less money before moving onto a college/university to complete their degree. Just thought I'd add that in.
As for 19 being too young, I think it is. I'm 33 and have a 1yr old and being a father is tough (but indescribably awesome too). How can you be an engineer at the age of 20 anyway?
