cant believe u blew your engine with a forged rotating assembly(i know theyre not indestructable but this one blew to easily). sorry to hear about your luck man.
even a little bit of detonation will kill a forged bottom end...thats just the way it is

I know who you are talking about and man have I heard horror stories. Base tune is ok but high hp go to another shop. They do dang good stuff for there cars. Sorry to hear man but good luck. Next time waste the money and go to memphis for a tune.
Ok I went down to get my car back. Got it towed home. I got them to give me the dyno results from that last run. I dont have a scanner or I would post the graph. Right before it broke that rod it was making 367whp at 3823rpm and 509wtq at 3000rpm. Max boost was 15.3psi at 3850rpm. To get an idea of how fast it spooled, it was making 6.5psi when he started the run at 1500rpm. At 3000rpm it was making 12.7psi and peaked out on 15.3psi at about 3850rpm when he shut the car down. Think someone should have gotten out of boost? He said the wastegate was hooked up correctly it just didnt have the right spring setup in the wastegate. For some reason there isnt an a/f graph on the sheet. They had the wideband hooked up to it. Im pretty sure the main cause of the failure was too much timing and too much boost. The new motor is on its way. Im doing the install myself...
Hey man is there any recourse at all you can take? Sounds like they should have been more prepared for that... If it were me I wouldn't let that shit go.

Well what would I be able to do? The fact that it was making too much boost has been proven. Its obvious the wastegate wasnt set up right when I took the car down there. IMO a good tuner would have checked my wastegate for me before they started tuning. But they really arent required to do a complete checkup of everything done to every car that comes in. He should have shut it down at 3000rpm though. So the question is who was more at fault? Me for not having the wastegate right or him for not watching the boost gauge and getting off the throttle after 10psi when its making boost fast like that? I dont want to let it go but then again id really rather get my car back running, forget about the whole ordeal, and never return to that shop again than having to go through a whole process of fighting it and taking them to court and all. Then my car would be down for alot longer possibly months...
Damn sucks to hear about the blown motor, you aren't the only local turbo stang that blew the hell up on their dyno! Funny how all their shop cars run flawless but it doesn't seem the same when it comes to customer cars...
Good luck with the rebuild man, I look forward to seeing it run with the turbo!
sorry to hear that man.you know ive went to coastal dyno several times and ive never had to sign a waiver.i think the only time a motor did blow up on sam that was his fault was on a lightning and he fixed it for free.to me that says something about a shop if they are confident enough to not have waivers and stand behind there work like that.thats why i would only trust him with my car.i think you need to find a better shop and a better tuner.
Damn that sucks, dude! This same shit happens regularly at that shop, from what i hear. Every time someone talks about them its always negative, whether it be tuning or buying parts.
Get a new "tooner" for sure. Guy is a idiot to do a WOT first pass on a turbo car.
Exactly

This has been over several times in the thread. Just because a motor's forged doesn't mean it can't blow. A bad tune is a bad tune and in this case a bad tuner is a bad tuner.

going to pick up the new dss shortblock on tuesday. Its ready for 800hp. I should have the engine back together within the next couple of weeks. Its getting dual cobra pumps and going to MPH for a high boost tune.
Oh and I happened to see a nice little thread on tennesspeed about me. lol. I knew people would be talking again. I never talk shit about any of them. I am nice to everyone I have met from tennesspeed. The boards are just fun. Ill be bringing the car out soon enough and anyone who thinks they feel the need to run me than theylle have the opportunity.
p.s., don't you even think about putting 800rwhp to that motor. Those probe shitboxes will crumble like a overcooked soufflé.
yes and yes. The DSS motors are known for poor everything...service, workmanship, a guy had wicked problems with his dss stroker for his fox, problem was, it was bored .030 over and they put .010 over pistons in it..they do tons of stuff like that, charging for probe pistons and putting in stock, etc. I liked DSS too until I heard all the horror stories, I'd get that vt302 from the other poster. Personally, If I was doing a mod motor stroker again it'd be VT or Boss330 racing
