Crank case pressure.

Here is the question, I noticed the howling noise coming from my engine so I took it to the local machanic. He told me my Crank case pressure was too high. I already have the filter on my oil cap but still hearing the same noise. Should I put another filter on my the driver's side valve cover. I don't want to blow my engine up because of this problem, thank you. picture belows.

i think i might have this problem too. i've been told not to run breathers on a newer modular engine though. maybe someone could elaborate but i think it was more than just for emissions reasons.

it looks like your using that breather, but still have the pcv hooked up? If so there is a huge vaccum leak. I run a small breather on each valve cover and the intake is capped where the pcv used to go. Its for emissions though

you could do that but make sure to cap off the intake where the pcv hose used to go. i know u can get away with just one breather filter but i liked to put one on each valve cover

delete the pcv and the egr. your intake and blower will stay clean from oil or carbon buildup.

Ok cool. My EGR has been long gone, but I was a bit weary about plugging the PCV system. Ill try it and see how it works

Do I get any power increase from deleting EGR and PCV valve, thanks? Just curious.

If you have alot of crankcase pressure and you can get rid of it, yeah there is some power to be had there.

I had the same problem but mine was the valve breather. I installed a catch can and the problem went away.

Problem with that is that I have the RPMII intake, and it sits REAL close to the d/s valvecover. So I cant get a 90* welded to the valvecovers to run a catchcan setup without it hitting the upper intake mani.

by deleting the pcv or the egr valve, your forcing the intake to suck in more cool fresh oxygen than before. Thats why a tune is needed. Normally with everything still hooked up like from the factory, the engine is recirculating spent gasses from the exhaust. Much of the oxygen had already been depleted so it offers nothing but to clean up emissions by further burning excess fuel from the exhaust. The pcv allows oily vapors from the crankcase to enter the engine. This vapor has no oxygen in it. Its simply there to keep those vapors from entering the atmosphere by burning it through the engine. You can gain power by deleting both of those and forcing more oxygen into the motor. Just think about how much cleaner the intake and valves will be over a period of time...

I ran two breathers and had oil smell in the cabin all the damn time ...annoying. I bought a billet catch can from UPR, ran my PCV ont he driver side, tube to a T at the passenger side, then to the catch can, then to the intake inlet. The can is mounted to the left and below my power steering reservoir. After about 10 WOT runs I had about a tablespoon of oil in the can. ...and no oil smell.

There is no where for the crank case pressure to go. It seems like it'd pressurize the catch can. As long as you keep the can lower than where it enters the intake, you will never have oil there.
