high impedence vs low impedence

just like the title says. what are the differences between the two and what are the benifits? the reason i ask is i am planning on installing twin turbo's and i am going to redo the fuel system. just exploring my options. did not search as i am stationed in Bahrain right now and the internet is super slow. thanks for any info.

The only difference between the two is that high impedance injectors will work with the factory ECU without any modifications besides a tune. The low impedance injectors need an extra control box called an "injector driver" in order to work with the factory ECU. The only reason why someone would go with low impedance injectors is because they come in larger sizes than are available in high impedance form. You can get up to 80# high impedance injectors that will work with the factory ECU, but if you need anything larger than that, you'll need the low impedance injectors and the injector driver.

In my opinion, there is no advantage to running low impedance injectors just for the sake of them being low impedance and having to run them with the injector driver, as opposed to the equivalent size high impedance injectors if they are available.

i won't be running anything higher than 80 lbs so i can stick with the low impedance. thank you for the info.

you want the high impedance so you don't have to shell out more cash for an injector driver

i ran the AEM driver and low impedance 84/lb Precision injectors and it worked great. 80/lbers are the highest flowing - high impedance injectors, generally available (I believe). And they havent been out too long, so there may not be much feedback yet

The good thing with the driver is that you could run 150's or 160's with the stock ECU.

Generally, the high flowing, high impedance injectors are pretty expensive, can be +$700 for a set of 8.

I've got my AEM driver and 84lb injectors for sale for $500 if anyone is interested <shameless plug> lol. I'm going to a BS3

Either way works!

not bad! I guess there is an advantage! I had no idea that factory style injectors were that expensive. I always had the assumption that all ford injectors were around the same price, much the same way rear-end gears are the same price regardless of the ratio.

Good luck!

To be fair, I did look around and the 80's are going for $425-$450 depending where you get them. I still like the flexibility of a driver and it's ability to accomodate growing injector sizes, especially with the HIGH fuel demands of the up and coming ethanol fuels -E85 & E98

There are two basic types of injectors. Low impedance injectors with a resistance of around 2.5-3 ohms, and high impedance injectors of around 12 ohms. This can easily be measured by a multimeter across the two electrical terminals.
