96 cobra need supercharger advice... been a while since i had a cobra little rusty...
i just bought a 96 cobra off a friend. he bought this car to put turbos on but ended up buying a viper instead so i picked it up cheap... the car has 39k on it the motor is fully built and he took it apart and confermed this. i wont have to much extra cash this year so i was thinking just a blower with like 6-8lbs whatevers made for a stock cobra for now but i want to leave room for future advancement for extra boost for down the road.. basically whats the best blower on a budget i can get to 400rwhp with out a dyno tune... i dont want to get it tuned this year until i someday add more boost if that ever comes.. i was looking at the kennebells they seam pretty cheap i know there chips are reliable, but dont seam to be able to get much boost out of them for the future.. plus i love the way a centri sounds!! whats my best bet?

New Cobra- White 96, real chrome 98 cobra wheels, ported and polished heads, built bottom end, just waiting for boost... its got 4.10s too (i am in love with SN95s wouldnt have anything else)
Daily driver- 04 F150 FX4, 2.5 inch spacers, 18x9 black KMC Rock Stars on 325/65/18s (35x13.00)
Bikes- 92 white GSXR1100, 06 Hayabusa 10" track dynamics swingarm....
With the Kennebell for our cars you wont see the power that you want down the line because they are non intercooled, or at least i have neever seen anyone with over 450hp with the 2.1L kit for our cars. If I was you I would get a D1SC and run like 8lbs-10lbs, this will be nothing for your built motor. This way with the D1SC you can up the boost down the road. However you will def need to get a tune. If your willing to put up 3-4k for a supercharger, whats another $300 for a tune to make sure your car will run fine and be fine.

What about the FMU with the vortech? not good enough to run for a while? i realy dont wanna get a dyno tune till im makin serious power takin off work makin apointments and all that isnt there anything other than KB that offers some sort of tune/chip to make it run?????
They all come with some sort of tune. With vortech u have to send ur computer to them and they install the chip. Honestly u can get a e-mailed tune for like $100 from any reputable tuner. And unless u have a tune you will not be making 400rwhp on 7-8 lbs. A tune does alot more then make HP. It also settles any driveability issues, part throttle driveablity. Plus unless ur sure what the exact build of that motor u neve know how the car will react to the blower. And remember just because its forged doesnt mean it wont break. My advice would be get at least an e-mail tune or dont supercharge it until u get a tune.

+1. Do it right the first time. Wait and save some $$$ for a custom tune.
yea i agree if your going to get boost do it right the first time spend the few hundred bucks to tune it right.. still cheaper than replacing your engine.

Seriously, don't buy a Kenne Bell for your car. I own one and have money to make it do better and I am still beating my head against the wall trying to obtain 500rwhp with it.
KB's are great superchargers for almost any other year, so don't be fooled by the numbers 03-04 Cobra's or Mach 1's are getting.
Buying a KB for 96-98 Cobra is just wasting money. I also was warned befoe buying mine. Like so many before me, I thought I could make it run. The setup is cursed by the Supercharging gods. And once you get past the handy cap of what KB did to the setup, such as No Intercooler, No Bypass Valve, No IAC after the supercharger, you then run up against the intake track between the throttle body and the supercharger chocking off the air. Just a bad setup all around.
Go Procharger, unless you just want to throw money away.
If you are going major cheapo just get a used kit. Like find an s-trim and get an e-bay intercooler, and make your pipes, etc. Or just run it with methanol. That's the cheapest way to get like 15psi (it think).
I have about 3k in my kit and a pieced most of it together. You may have to be a bit patient.
You will always want a dyno tune. It's cheaper than buying a full on kit from procharger for 6k and using the chip!?!
I paid $300 for a tune with a diablo chip.

well im def not going KB... my tranny has seen better days and before i put alot of boost down i wanted to upgrade to like a T56, but for next summer i just wanted a little somethin to play with then next winter realy go nuts. Thats why i wanted to try n get away with out a tune cuz i didnt wanna do one this year with 8lbs then take it again next year when im running more like 15! but whatever thats fine.. what if i went a head and put like 15lbs through it with the stock whiny tranny? im not worried about the trans as i plan on upgrading in the future should i just run it till it breaks then fix it next winter when i have more money or should i baby it with a small 8lb setup then do it all right next winter?? btw i appreciate all the help i know i havent been around on svtp in about 3 years..
