I want a re-match (white WRX - STI) on San Thomas Expressway
My 04 COBRA has been a garage queen now that it's paid off & paid for. Since I work & go to SJSU, it just collects dust right now. Last night I took it our for about an hour or so in the late evening. This was to get the fluids mixed up & to prevent any flat spots on my expensive PS2 tires.
About 11:30 or so is when I headed out. Not really looking for any trouble. Wanted to just mainly cruise around & get the car to full operating temps for a little bit. One my way home heading south on San Thomas expressway way I see a brand new white WRX STI. The light turns red & we get to the Hamilton & San Thomas light. He was making a left & I was going straight.
We both approached the (just turned red light) like normal people. I was bored & thought, what the hell. I don't have a 422 RWHP COBRA for nothing. Within seconds I threw him a nice 7K RPM rev which instantly got his & his passengers attention. There was no one around at that time so he put his car into reverse & hoped into the left lane right next to me.
His passenger kept telling him to give me half a car length. Here is the part that makes me mad at myself. I'm pretty sure, even if he was slight modded that I could have taken him. But, I don't push my car real hard that often. I'm not afraid to challenge anyone around from a roll because I know I won't break anything & wheel spin is way less.
So... the light turns green, I walked my COBRA from a standstill in 2nd, that way there would be no wheel hop (mine has been reduced 90% but occasionally in flares up) & my tires where warm so I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway. I also did not want "any" wheel spin at all. When light went green we both took of but he jumped way ahead of me & I quickly started reeling him in from 2nd & into 3rd. But, the next light was quickly approaching so I jumped on my BAER 6-piston mono block calipers & it was game over. I saw a cop so I ducked down a side street & just let her cool down.
I couldn't believe that I let the 03/04 COBRA crowd/boys down. Had I executed this late night race, I could have show him what's up. But, I realize it was my fault & should have put my game face on. By not being prepared I let a slower car win. I know my COBRA (I'm the original owner) well & I let it down.
NEXT TIME, I will walk it out in 1st, then grab 2nd quick & slam that gas pedal down.
If you know who this guy is, let him know that I would like to have a proper re-match... ... ... !

Yeah it sucks some STI owner got the win, but the most important thing is to learn from the experience. Next time you will be better prepared for the launch.

Had a played my cards better, this race would have gone done way differently man... ! I'm a better driver then you might think (despite this pitiful loss).

Kevin, I pulled my Cobra out Sat night and headed down your direction hoping to run into your STI. No luck, sorry.
I think the wheels got sold a few different times to different people & then they got painted over right? The STI run-in is okay man, someday I hope to meet up w/ him again.

You need to re-read my original post then. Not sure what you mean by take off. Me raced from a dig (a stand still) & then before the next light I had to shut the COBRA down early to avoid a possible pull-over. I was scared of the cop, not the WRX or another race...

lol i know what a dig is and i understand your original post. You started in second to avoid wheel hop. I was simply saying I would have taken off in first regardless of the situation. Thats just me and my opinion. Anyway hope you get your rematch to show him how this was supposed to go!!
I raced a STI before. I took off in 1st and he pulled his entire car in front of me about bumber to bumper. My launch was perfect not to much spin,no hop. Shifted to 2nd and cought up next to him,shift to 3rd and left his a$$$.I got way ahead of him.I could see him in my rear view mirror.At the next light he asked "dude is that a real cobra"I said "cant you tell"he said "that thing is fast and loud a$$ hell"I said "thank" he said"your car is faster but mine gets better fuel economy" LOL what else could he had said after getting his a$$ handed to him

I wish it could have went down that very same way bro. With my chassis, suspension, tire/rim, full exhaust modes + my custom tune, I would have taken him down quick... !
