Well, I honestly searched for the old thread and I'm not sure why I could not resurrect it?
So, here is the NEW and IMPROVED Road Atlanta 2008 thread.
I have been doing quite a bit of research regarding the event and I have asked several RA locals for some help. About the only update I can tell you at this point is it's being worked on. No date or time frame at this point yet unfortunately. But, I AM working on it.
On a similar but somewhat unrelated note, the SCMC has just announced their 2008 VIR event this past week!!
Here is Tony's note:
What's going on in 2008?
While we've been working on it for 2008, I can tell you our National Event will be at Virginia International Raceway on May 30, 31, & June 1, 2008. The three day event will consist of three days of open track at VIR with a Friday Full course event and a Saturday/Sunday south course event. There will be a "Top 25" show and a Saturday night banquet at the track. If you wish to help start the planning for this event, please e-mail me and let me know so we can get the ball rolling. mrmach@comporium.net
For those of you that have not run with SCMC, it is a GREAT group to run with.
Sooooo.............. depending on the luck we have with the Road Atlanta event, we may possibly want to substitute the VIR event for Springtime and then do Road Atlanta at another time. I'm sure Road Atlanta is a hoot but I can guarantee you that not a single person will be disappointed with a VIR event!!?!? Although VIR is quite a bit more difficult to get to. But I can assure you, it's worth the drive.
So stay tuned!!!!

FIX IT!!
The lawsuit was recently settled for a reported total of approximately $4.5 million. The contributions to the settlement were about 49% from the estate of the driver, 41% from the track owners and the event organizers, 8% from Porsche, and 2% from the driver of the Ferrari that was claimed to have triggered the crash.
If tracks, event organizers (SCMC), and drivers can be sued and owe damages, I doubt people will want to risk losing their home and savings for a track day.
It's obvious that Road Atlanta will not be a track for much longer. The growth of Atlanta is quickly surrounding this area. A RA track manager told us that its days were numbered. When faced with reckless lawyers who seek million dollar judgments, I am sure it would be much easier to just sell the property to a developer for several million dollars.
How much can SCMC afford to pay? Will their officers and officials still want to risk their financial hide for future track events? Can they afford to pay an attorney $400/hour to fight a massive lawsuit?
How about you drivers? What if I destroy an engine and oil down the track causing a bit of wreckage? Will people be suing me for damage to their cars and bodily injury?
But, yea, I would certainly attend an event at RA or VIR next year. I may not have many other future opportunities in the foreseeable future. The lawyers may destroy our sport.

Very nice Doc, as a doctor I am sure you don't like lawyers. I don't like them either, but I can tell you how two doctors screwed up on a mis-diagnosis for both my mother and father. We never sued, but they did have it coming to them.
But off the hijack and back on track. Here is a Road Atlanta track map:
Doc isn't really a doctor. He picked up that nickname some where along his lifespan, so far. I know you didn't know this, or you might not have directed those remarks about real medical doctors at Doc.
Just think about all the good, doctors do to help people. Be positive in life.
Just my $.02 again.

Road Atlanta is only 9 hours from Naples. Sounds like a good excuse to drag the GT out and share some laps with you guys. I did a skippy race last fall there. If you haven't driven Road Atlanta, you won't regret the journey. Great track. There's a great hotel owned by the Panoz people too. I can't remember the name of it, but it's where you want to stay. Shafer, you in?

I'm in for a spring VIR event if the Road Atlanta event isn't going to happen. It would be great if we could incorporate another event as a tag along a few days before or after........try to make the most out of the long haul.
I see they didn't have color photos yet when you started racing!!?
I am so old that they didn't even have cameras.

I've been around for a long long year stolen many man's soul and faith
I was around when Jesus Christ had His moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed His fate...
Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tzar and his ministers, Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank held a gen'rals rank when the blitzkrieg
raged and the bodies stank...
I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for
ten decades for the Gods they made
I shouted out "Who killed the Kennedy's?" when after all
it was you and me...

Gene is correct. I am not a real doc (he's probably thinking of Fred). Like Gene and Bruce, I don't even work (although unlike Gene and Bruce, I did once work for a living ).

What about finding an event that backs up to the VIR SCMC event and we hit both? Friday and Sat at VIR and Sun and or Mon at Atlanta?
BTW, it's about a 6.5 hour tow haul from VIR to RA. I need at least one day off between events. Vintage racing is usually a four day event but we don't drive 6 1/2 hours midway through the weekend.

Chateau Elan!
I'll be staying in my Château Trailer.
Road Atlanta and VIR both have excellent shower facilities. Nothing taste better than something grilled at trackside in the evening hours. And everyone will be much faster after a few beers in the paddock after they throw out the final checkered flag.
I was VIR'ing this weekend. What a mess. Much needed two day monsoon killed practice day. Crew Chief spend 12 hours in the emergency room with a viral thing. GT and Stock cars drop a wheel off in the mud and throw big stinking mud pies into the groove...can you say, "WHEEEEEEEEEE"!!!
Between the rain and the black flag all for all the crashing I got 5 laps before the race on Sunday. My times didn't start to get right til the 9th lap of 10.
Oh well...the suite over the garages on the front straight are awesome.

I'd actually prefer TWO days off but can live with only one.

I know VIR does not allow overnight camping, what about Road Atlanta?
Rob, GREAT photo! I slept in the back of my Suburban at Road America in August and at 0500 Friday morning I woke up seeing the control tower silhouetted against a dimly lit clear sky shortly before the sun rose. Gave me goose bumps! Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to take a picture like you did.
Bruce, you're right about our not camping - I remember Ted, you and I driving the toter to the parking lot by the host motel. Must be like Road America where camping depends on who is renting the track - and perhaps whether they pay for extra security or not.

Fred, Bruce, Mark, etc - I will find out about camping tonight....I assume they have a flat fee for security paid by the host club, and then each camper pays their own camping fee to the track....if there are enough people planning on camping, it makes it worthwhile for the club to pay for security and divvy the cost up, or absorb it
