i cant help but wonder about dry rot and deterioration anytime a car sits like that and does not get used it will cause damage

Until it meets reserve, I do not count it as a "possible" realistic price for a 2000 Cobra R in this specific condition and miles. As long as the reserve is not met, "friends" of the seller could be trying to "bait" a bidder/buyer into bidding this car up to meet the reserve and then the high bidder is locked into buying it. This may not be the case, but who knows?? In the recent past, now, and in the future, it is hard to beat "new" condition.

R

The wind splitter that attaches to the bottom of the front facia is what is wrapped in plastic and laying in the back. These cars were not shipping with the splitter installed. Dzus fasteners hold it in place.

I wonder if everything still works on that car after not moving for nearly 7 years?? Probably the best Cobra R out there if everything works.

I am trying to think. How would you get a systems check on that thing? You certainly could not test drive it. Of course once you bought it, you still couldnt drive it anyway.

So maybe the entire question of whether everything works or if they is dry rot or not is moot. Its not a car for running and driving anyway.

Its a static display.

And is it really a display item? No one can really see the true 2000R look of this car in the condition it is in. I would say that it is more of a storage item. It seems to me that we saw this car on eBay 3-4 years ago? I don't remember if it sold at that time, it might have been another one. I do remember one in this condition, with this kind of miles for sale about 4 years ago for $55K.

Well I guess we will not know, this car is no longer for sale.............................

Why wouldn't you drive it if you bought it? Me, I would probably pull all the plastic off and ask for a trash bag to throw it it. Then I would wait for the previous owner to wake up because I'm sure that he would have passed out watching me do that. Then, I would drive it home, and take it to the track ASAP after checking it out mechanically.

I understand it's a collectors car, but it was designed to race. It's still a car and there are many more important things in life than making sure a car is in perfect condition. It's proabaly just me, and I'll probably get flamed for saying what I did, but oh well....

^^ I agree with you. It's not a 1 of 9 '71 Hemicuda vert. Hell, even it was, I'd still drive it. IMO, no matter how rare, a car needs to be driven at least a bit.

I guess it all depends upon what the specific buyer/owner wants to do with his own money. Personally, I bought a 2000 Cobra R, like this, in 2003 except with a few more miles, 21.6 instead of 11.5. I have driven mine a little, it now has approx. 500 miles on it. "IF" this auction is legit, and this 11.5 mile car is in the $90K range, and since miles, or lack-of, are a very large factor/difference in money on these cars, mine could be worth $55K-$60K right now, maybe more. That means, my driving 475 or so miles in my 2000 Cobra R has possibly cost me about $25K-$35K. To a collector/investor a $25-$35 thousand dollar deduction for a few miles is a big deal. To others, $25K-$35K is chump change. Maybe this kind of money is nothing to you? If I were looking at an 00R to drive/use, even a little bit, this is not the one I would be looking at to buy.

No flaming......just reality, and that is only if this auction is/was legit, which I can't say with certainty that is was, $90K for an 8 year old 2000R is steep, IMHO.

Heck, with $35K, you could buy a 2004 Mystichrome, or an '03 10th and have some extra cash.

The seller of this 2000R would not pass out, he would watch you pull of the wrappers while he is counting the return on his investment $$$ that you have just paid to him, and see you tearing off thousands of dollars within a few short minutes, I'll bet he would even laugh with you.<<It's yours!! I'll bet he would tell his friends about it afterwards and they would all laugh too.

I do collect, but I am also an enthusiast. I can't just let the cars sit, I have to enjoy them, at least a little bit. My putting a few miles on them every year also keeps them lubricated, which is a concern to many.

R

I would think it is from Jacky Jones since his floor mats are in it and it is located in Georgia. It would be interesting to see what else is under the care covers.

Maybe he did this to get a current value for insurance purposes?

I guess I just view cars a little different. I don't see them as being a "good" investment. Most, not all don't go up in value, and how much would it suck to take your car out one day to put one more mile on top of the 500 you have and have some soccer mom total it. I think I would feel at a loss because I never really enjoyed my car. I just see all these 03/04 cobras sitting and staying pretty, but not really being enjoyed. I have a friend who is so envious of me because I drive mine. She's got 2500 miles on her silver tenth with a dent in the quarter panel from the dryer in her garage....

I do see your point, though.

I do know what you are saying above^^^^^^^^^. It is not the "norm" that late model specialty cars go up in value so early in life. In the past, it has taken a considerable amount of time for a car to get back to the point of bringing its original MSRP $$$. But since the collector car craze has come on the scene, things have changed, especially for the "unique of the unique"<--I consider all SVT Cobras to be unique, and then some a little more unique than others. All that being said, the 94-98 Cobras (inc. the R) are still slow in $$$..........and there were quite a few unique features and options that were designed for the SVT Cobra during this time period, but their time has not come yet.

R
