Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on in my life. Some of you may be thinking “That stinker left for the racing season in the south!” but that's unfortunately, not the story.
I have Extensive Small Cell Carcinoma that was discovered 9/11 in a CT Scan of my abdomen. We have been chasing it ever since. It is also appears as nodules in my lungs, my bones are “swiss-cheesed” and I am going in for a full body bone scan and MRI of my brain (no comments, but now we will know for sure if it's empty!) on Tuesday. I hadn't said anything because I wanted to know some details before I talked to anyone about it. Brain scan came back clear, bones totally gone.
I start Chemo the 5th of Oct – for Extensive SCC the mortality looks like this on average. Without treatment, 3 – 12 Months, with Chemo extending that to maybe two years. 6 percent of SCLC (Small Cell Lung Cancer) cases make it to 5 year anniversaries. I made it through the week of Chemo YAY!
I have enjoyed having each and every one of you as a friend, and I assure you I am gearing up for a long hard fought victory. Your prayers are very greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Cliff

Keep your head up high and give it a good fight. I truly believe a strong positive attitude will take you farther in your battle. I will keep you in my prayers.
My father was diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer back in the late '80's and was told to get his affairs in order because he had less then 6 months left. He was given the option to go on a new experimental "guinea pig" program of intense chemo & radiation by a doctor that was calling the shots from 800 miles away whom he had never met. Anywho, he signed up for the program bascially because he had nothing to loose and wanted to help with research. He was so bad that the disc in his back were literally crumbling into pieces from the cancer attacking the bone. In short, after being on the treatment for 6 months he was 80% "cured" and within a 18months he was in total remission from a cancer that he was told would take him within 6 months. My dad lived another 20 years before he passed away from complications of his diabetes. My dad was a very strong willed man and fought the inevitable, I can only hope to have the strength & will to live that he possessed during his battle... I know thats what carried him through.

Turning 40 soon, I come home and spend time with my 2 year old. The simplest things make her the happiest girl in the world. I realize at those times, even on my worst days that I still have moments in my life to enjoy everyday, no matter what is/has happened to me. It sounds like you have this same type of outlook.
Keep your head up high and give it a good fight. I truly believe a strong positive attitude will take you farther in your battle. I will keep you in my prayers.

That's an inspiration. The power of a positive attitude cannot be underestimated!
Cliff - they say that you're not supposed to have a truck on the racetrack, yet, there you are. Keep it up!
cliff, like the others said, think positive, fight, fight, fight, and hope for the best....you're in my prayers....

Cliff,
I have a friend that was diagnosed with the same thing 3 years ago. He did the treatments and easily recovered. He ran a running marathon this year and beat his previous record time.
You'll get well soon and will watch those 00R guys give you a point-by-pass on the race track.
Don't let statistics drive your thought process nor let it control your life. Do what you gotta do, be realistic and try not to let this thing consume your every thought. I know this is easier said then done. Positive attitude goes a long way helping the body counter attack when things aren't right.
We are here for you so please don't hesitate to post about your situation or if you need to share. Our thoughts are with you. I've already put a word in to "the man" on your behalf.
