Display of wrong registration

I bought my truck used and never recieved new plates for it, only the new registration sticker came in the mail. So i assumed the plates carried over to the new registration, until i was pulled over for it about a month ago. I need to prove that the plates that were on my truck were once registered to my truck so i can get the ticket dismissed. Because right the courthouse thinks i just put some random ass plates on my truck. What i need to know is how can i prove that the plates on my truck were registered to it at one time?

I would check the dealer paperwork that you received when you bought the truck..But, whenever I check a plate, sometimes it will come back saying that the old plates were canceled, and it will give the new plate info. Your old plates should come back with the previous owner's info, with the truck Vin# etc..Check with you local tax/registration office also.
