You don't HAVE to go to court. Pay the fine and be done with it. Of course that will admit guilt, get the points and thats it. Only go to court if you plan on fighting it.
Go to court, cop wont show up and your shit will get dismissed.
haha i wish everytime i have went to court to fight it the cop is there, maybe i just have bad luck but never in 6 years with the tickets ive gotten has the cop not shown up.

Why anyone would not show up for the job they are paid to do has always confused me.

Horseshit. IF this happened to you, you got very very lucky.
OP, opt to take the defensive driving class and avoid the points on your license. you get to do that once a year if I remember correctly and you are well outside of that on your last ticket. you should have the option on the back of the ticket.

I've had probably 6+ tickets dismissed by going to court and the cops never show up. That's in Dallas tho. Cops here usually never show up. The courts are always filled with people and they all get their tickets dismissed lol

I don't know where these posters are coming up with this as a general observation/rule. It is far from accurate. Officer's get paid overtime to show up in court on their off days. If they are on shift they MUST show unless they are on an emergency call. Supervisors do not take kindly to officers not showing up for court, neither do judges. An officer might get away with this one or twice but after that the judge, prosecutor, and police superiors would kick their ass.
In my jurisdiction it is a rarity that the officer does not show up without informing the court of his good cause basis, then the judge would continue the case and not dismiss.

it was a state trooper.....in Texas.....plan on the officer showing up.
if you know u were speeding...just take defensive driving...pay the bullshit court costs, and then take the course (make sure you take it at like Dennys or Golden Corrall so you get a free meal).
Then, turn the duplicate copy of your DD class into your insurance to get a reduction in insurance cost.

As others said, defensive driving is the way to go. You don't even need to see the judge to do it. Just speak with the court clerk, get the proper paperwork, spend the time in class and be done with it. The costs are about the same, but you don't take the insurance hit.

here in SC on a "small" speeding ticket like that 99% of the time they will reduce teh fine by close to half and dismiss the points if you go to court ,,,I never ever ever just pay for it by mail...they will actually anounce this to the whole court room 'speeders wanting to take a reduction of ticket by half come forward" and will line you up to "pay" at the cashiers..meaning if you had a $150 2 point ticket usually would be $75 and no points....or on the other side a $600 4pointer would be $300 and 2 points, etc...i guess it makes sense to get things in and out quicker...
and yes i have had the cop not showing happen twice...once my ticket was thrown out, the second time they continued with court until someone asked were the courts witness was? Then they threw out our tickets...
point is always go to court...cant get any worse, can only get reduced
