You need to get a cheap set of rims with some diffrent tires than you have on your car, wait for him to go to work, put them on, go light um up in front of his house or in his driveway then swap your rims back, when he accuses you tell him that thats not your tread pattern,

Your car must be really loud or something? Seems like maybe he's not an unreasonable person after all with that last statement. He may have been a dick in the way he initially presented himself, but he's being pretty lenient with you as far as actual action goes.

I talked to his actual neighbor (also relatively new to the neighborhood) today who said over the summer she was vacuuming with her windows open while he was trying to nap with his windows open. He came over bitching and told her to get a quieter vacuum. Said it was a noise violation and fell under some "Qaulity of Life" statute. She said he tried to impose his police influence then too and told her... "You know I am a state trooper."

You should leave a box of foam ear plugs on his door step. That's what I do when I choose to sleep when the rest of the world does not. In my case I have extremely sensitive hearing; insects flying into the window on the other end of the house wake me up instantly even WITH ear plugs. I can't expect the rest of the world to accommodate me.
I would change the cats and tell him to kiss my ass. Then i would proceeded to be as loud as i could leaving and coming home. Had he been decent about telling me then i would change the cats and be as quiet as i could.

OP, I don't even see why you started this thread. You knew your exhaust was both illegal and obscenely loud, yet you question whether you are in the wrong or not.
Make your exhaust legal, then you don't have to worry about it any more.

Get an engine stand and a junkyard v8, aim open headers at his house and let it run around 4grand at random times of the day until it blows up....
But to stay on topic, its illegal so you dont have much of a foot to stand on. If you legalize it and he keeps harrasing about it then i'd call his boss and complain.

Since this is not smack down I will refrain from getting personal as you seem to want to do by baiting me.
Let me explain the difference to you. Yes I, like the op, CHOSE to run an illegal exhaust on my car. However UNLIKE the op, I never got called out by a cop, also unlike the OP, I did not come onto a public forum calling the cop a prick because he was mean to me. also had I been stopped I wouldn't have come on a public board pissing and moaning and asking if I really had to obey the cop when he said fix it or start getting tickets for it, again, unlike the OP.
It was apparent from his first post that he saw nothing wrong with his exhaust even tho he knew it was illegal. thus my reiterating the point several times in my post. regardless of what you or any of the other apparent teenagers playing the "bash the cop for doing his job" game think, my response was spot on and accurate.
Now was that clear enough for you or do I need to dumb it down some more?
OP, unfortunately you've encountered one of those cops that just isn't cool with a good sounding mustang. While most don't give a damn unless the neighbors file a complant, there are a few that have a problem with loud exhaust. Well, at least that has been my experience. There's some good advice in this thread as to how you can handle this and I suggest you follow it.

No one's saying anything bad about the LEO's on here. In fact, all of the LEO's on here pretty much agree that the cop should have handled the situation much better, assuming that's the true story.
For those of you that wish to continue to jump on this bandwagon, I suggest you read the rules of this forum before deciding to bash or insult.
This forum exists because we have verified L.E.O.s willing to VOLUNTEER their time to answer legitimate questions from members. When member insult them or their brethren they don't take it lightly and tend to not visit the forum and in turn not answer those legitimate questions.
If you can't express yourself without insults and/or violating the rules of this forum, then you should refrain from posting here.
