does steig not strip the rotors on the eatons they did on my lightning eaton? also i covered the silencer holes on my lightning does anyone do the same on the cobras? I don't think i have seen it on a cobra eaton. I pick up a very low milage stock eaton and i think im going to send it to steig for a port and change it from a KB 2.8H when i feel the need to hear the eaton scream i love that sound.

How hard is it to port a Eaton yourself? and what are some of the tools used to do it? What are the risks?

I would like to port my Eaton until I can afford a KB, but don't want to mess it up? I would like to hear peoples experiences?

Thank you,
Tony

It's not hard at all and everything you'll need is in this thread. Just make sure to use a 1/4" grinder. You can buy them for less than $30 new. Or like $55 from Sears like I did.

As far as it being easy well....... giving someone a haircut is easy and I bought my scissors at Walmart for $5.95.

As far as porting your own, have a spare on hand be careful not to remove to much material.

Here is what we do:

The Eaton supercharger is engineered for specific type vehicles and rotor speed regulated by pulley size. After 5 years of steady research and development, we have seen rotor to case wear patterns that are consistent with vehicle types.

The rub marks are mostly shadow type that is caused by rotor coating contact. There are two different coatings that appear on Eaton rotors.

Improving Horsepower threw Engine Air Flow is what Stiegemeier Porting is all about. Starting in the late seventies threw 2003 we were strictly Cylinder Head and Manifold development. Sprint cars, Indy cars along with Nascar to everything in between.
In 2003 I was asked to modify an Eaton Supercharger for increased air flow. It has been a huge challenge to say the least. We started out seeing a 25-30 RWHP range and we are currently at 45-50 RWHP gains. By adding a Stiegemeier modified Throttle Body and Plenum you will have a 60 RWHP gain. The best part of all is Stiegemeier ported supercharger, tb and pl will not effect your tune.
The customer can send in their blower, tb and pl for us to port or we have cores in stock. The process begins by welding, machining and then hand crafting the finished product to exact specification with the use of templates and micrometer. With much testing it became apparent that the balance of air flow from the low to high pressure side of the blower is critical. When this is done correctly peak torque is increased along with incredible horsepower gains. If boost falls off more than ½ pound at redline, you need a tighter belt, generally a 1/2 inch will do it. Notch the tensioner for more tilt and easier belt install.
The Stiegemeier Stage IV ported blower only flows 1452 cfm this is 502 over stock Cobra Eaton that flows 950 cfm. That is an increased efficiency of 55% over stock.
A stock Throttle Body and Plenum flow 878 cfm, after welding, porting and polishing the cfm is increased to 991 cfm.
This gives the Stiegemeier ported Cobra blower is the most efficient running 15.75 lbs boost, which equates to 18,550 rpm rotor speed at redline, it is tempting to run more boost but what happens is air cavitation and an increase in blower temps which equates to more low end torque but less horsepower.
A Stiegemeier blower combo reduces IAT2s 23 degrees across the board.
A 2.80 upper pulley only can make 14 lbs boost and 500 rwhp 480 rwtq. Add 2 # lower and you can make 15.75 lbs boost and equal hp and tq 515/515.
All you need to accomplish this is:
2003/2004 Cobra (convertible or hard top)
Stiegemeier Stage IV ported combo
K&N Filter
Spark plugs- NGK TR6 gap .038
New belt (correct size)
Tuner-SCT or Diablo
Fuel system upgrades not needed until you exceed 520 rwhp- a boost a pump is a good choice.
All supercharger systems are returned oil filled and ready to run. We have a 1-3 day turnaround time and as always Satisfaction Guarantee. When you reach 500 rwhp show your graph and become a 500 rwhp club member and receive a free T-shirt.
Need more power more speed:
Stiegemeier Porting is now offering 4 V Cylinder heads.
3 stages
Stock -air flow is 286 cfm in and 175 cfm ex
Stage 3- air flow is 331 cfm in and 255 cfm ex
Upgraded Cams and Valves available.

1. Black coating - In the past I referred to as Teflon. It is actually an abratable coating to allow rotors to hone in.

2. Gray coating- This is a different type of coating for the same reason for rotor hone in, this type is less durable and usually flakes off causing scratches that can lead to galling and supercharger lock up.

A smaller top pulley will spin the rotors quicker for higher boost levels .100 equates to 2lb. of boost. This results in more power and more speed when increasing rotor speed from an OEM setting.

The rotor hone in areas, which we see, as rub patterns will become aggressive causing blower noises, which at times will disappear when the unit heats up and expands. At other times it can cause permanent damage.

All superchargers need to be Blue Printed when increasing rotor speed, past the OEM setting. Blue Printing the supercharger amounts to machining extra clearance in critical rub areas. Stripping rotors (specifically the Gray coating), correcting any rotor timing issues affected by casting core shift, cleaning, de-burring, adding new specific type of supercharger oil and high load Bearing grease along with replacing spring loaded drive couplers with a solid performance type, (when needed). Lastly, inspection of bearings and seals, at the time of Blue Printing.

A rebuilt Front drive is a very wise option, for the added insurance of durability.

High Performance Eaton Blue Print $265.00 (As described above in last paragraph)

(Blue Printing has and is Included in our porting process)

Front Drive Rebuild:

A complete disassemble of the Front Drive, full inspection of the case core, any repair or machining will be done at this time (if needed).

All bearings and seals are replaced with upgraded High RPM performance pieces. Bearings are checked for proper press. Seals are installed with a semi drying liquid gasket seal. Retaining clip and fill plug replaced as needed. Pulley re-install included on any Front Drive Rebuild.
Starting at $125.00 at the time of porting.

When you send in your supercharger we ask that you enclose a note with your name, phone # and return address. Pack Well esp snout/pulley area. Take off All removable parts.
Once the blower, throttle body and plenum are in our shop We open the box and number ALL components we number the note and input in our computer files. This insures that Everyone gets back their same Blower. We call you that day go over job instructions with you and get any other info we need.
We fully disassemble your blower and front drive snout and evaluate it's condition. All bearings and seals are inspected, rotors are checked for flaking and tip scouring.
The blower case is ported achieving the CORRECT balance of Low pressure to High pressure. (Low pressure meaning the inlet side and High pressure the exit side)
Careful attention is paid to ALL areas to achieve the Highest Airflow rates and still Retain case rigidity ----Designs are constantly being tested and updated to assure you the Largest HP gains available-- GUARANTEED. All Airflow test data recorded with a SF 600 SuperFlow Flow bench.
All Lightning Truck blowers have rotor to case rub. We at Stiegemeier Porting have developed a machining process that increases clearance in these areas between your rotors and case This is not an option just part of the Stiegemeier process to insure you the customer has No pre-mature failures. The rotors are profiled, blueprinted and timed to the case.
After porting All gasket surfaces are checked for flatness and machined if necessary. The machined parts are put threw a 3 phase cleaning process the last being a high pressure 190 degree rotisary wash. If the rotors are to be chemically stripped which we Highly Recommend for any rotors that are epoxy coated and being spun faster than the OEM setting. Rotor flaking leads to blower failure. Some rotors wear and some flake.
All superchargers are assembled with factory correct Full Synthetic grease and oil. All fasteners are torqued to spec after assembled All blower are spun at speed and checked with an amplified hearing system to insure you of a perfect assembly. All superchargers are cataloged, numbered and dated.
We take our shipping Seriously-We double box with, bubble wrap, protective shield for snout and packing peanuts.
We do stock all gaskets, pulleys and plugs ect. We supply you with tech tips, instructions READ THESE. We are available to answer any of your questions you might have. We have a very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
We have 1-3 day turnaround. Cores available. Front drive rebuild recommended.
I will always GUARANTEE more HP Per Dollar than any Competitor and Stand behind it 100%.

Grinder from Sears or you can buy one from anywhere for cheap and under $30.

Sandpaper flappers from Napa or maybe another automotive store. If you can't find them then get the wire brush. It doesn't work near as well though.

Then last and most important is the cutter. This one here will set you back like $35 but is well worth it. You can flat out hog some material out and fast!

Order that^ from MSC/J&L Metalworking and it's called a Carbide Burr for Aluminum
Part # SC3NF----00471151
Phone # is 1-800-521-9520 and yes they take credit cards.

This is all you need to do any amount of cutting on a blower case, tb, and plenum. The cutter like I said is the most expensive but you'll be glad you have it as soon as you start cutting. Just hold a steady hand and don't force it to cut. Let the cutter do the cutting and it will be fine. Then the flappers will smoothin everything out. Just start with a 60 or the lowest, roughest grit you can get. After that just go back over it with a finer one and you're good to go.

What's the deal...some Steggy stage IV's have an "oval" and some have what looks like a "figure 8" cut into them. Are these examples of old and new designs??? Which is the latest and greatest???

Oh and what about filling the silencer holes??? Do or don't???

Some say it works and some say it doesn't???

I was thinking about using aluminum instead of JB weld to be safe.

I haven't decided if I'm going with Steggy or a home port???

Later...Dave

I haven't decided if I'm going with Steggy or a home port???

Use the proper epoxy.
Prep the area as per instruction.
The design on the outlet side is different porting stages.
I think the 8 shape you refer to is Stage 5.

This is Stage 5 outlet shape:

Stage 5 and 5+ yeild the greatest RWHP and RWTQ.

So you agree with filling the holes...it works???

Just epoxy??? Why not use aluminum, would't it be stronger with less chance of falling apart???

I'm confused about which is stage IV and which is V???

Many posted pics on various threads have been titled stage IV but show either the "oval" or "figure 8" shape. I thought that the design of stage IV changed as time passed??? So what your saying is stage IV is an "oval" and stage V is the "figure 8"???

I thought the outlet port was same on IV and V with a torque plate added on the stage V???

Thanks for clearing this up before I pull the trigger!!!

BTW, I sent you an e-mail (Stiegemeier) a couple of weeks ago about this without a response...can I resend it???

Later...Dave

If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But... if it's real, you'll feel it.
