My 03 has 8 thread heads.

Awhile back i remember seeing a thread that was curiouse when they switched the heads. Well i cant find that thread again. Long story short I put new plugs in my 03 this week and use alittle piece of fine wire to count the threads in the heads. I have the 8 thread heads.

Build date is- 7-29-03

Car number is- 8331 of 8394

Original owner? No Cobra from the factory came with 8 thread heads. They first became available in 2005

Actually several Cobra's came with 9 thread heads. I thought they were only late 04's but anything is possible. This has been proven many times. Wish I had a link. The 05 head improvement is still an improved head on the coolant side.

mine has 9 thread heads, it was built Feb. of 04.

My bad there guys I ment to say 9 thread heads. I cant tell you 100 percent for sure as i wasnt the original owner. just seen a few people on here say they heard that late run 03s got the head change

Sorry, not true. Original heads on my 2004 have 8-9 thread.

Oops..Must be the new flow in the rear of the heads in 05 which no stock Cobra came with

There have been many head design changes. I think the 9 spark plug threads came in late 03 or 04. They did oil passage changes, spark plug changes, cooling passage changes. The final update was the Jan 05 heads which did not come on the cars from the factory I think it was cooling passages.

OP, I could of sworn I had 9 threads too...I have a 2003 too with stock heads that have never been switched...

How did you count the threads on the heads?

I took a a thin piece of metal rod and put a slight bend on the end. feed it down in the spark plug hole and slowly bring it back up. you will feel it jumping over the threads

You don't even have to take out the spark plug to check tread count. All 9 tread heads have different Ford logo on a side of the head.

The one I posted above with 9 treads was build in 03.

I just checked mine, I have the second image on my cylinder heads. 03 Cobra 10th build date 06/04/2003 #7480 of 8394
