I just cannot decide on which route I want to go. Right now I have a 2.76 upper with the stock lower, BF tb, hbh cai, offroad x, magnaflow c/b and thats really it for performance modifications. I want to step up to more power but cannot really decide which route to go.
I'm looking at Posi's Race port which I would be running a 2.76 w/ a 4lb lower or a Whipple probaly around 17psi. Either way, I think my budget is holding me back and I can't decide if I should just hold off for a while and save up 3000 for the whipple or go with the port that will cost me around 800. Can anyone atest to the gains with both of these setups and their numbers?
Is the difference in cost really worth it to go with the whipple?
Anyone that has had both setups, let me know what you thought about both.
I am limited on a budget and this is my DD for now, so take that into consideration as well. Any feedback is welcome!
BF 2.76 Upper & Idlers l BF TB & Plenum l Afco Dual Pass H/E l Magnaflow Cat-back l Offroad X-pipe l MGW Orange STS l HBH CAI l NGK TR6's l PPRV Delete l 180 Therm l BF IRS Brace l MM FLSFC l Steeda Sport Lowering Springs l LFP Intercooler Tank l Canton Radiator Tank l 5000k HID Headlights and Fogs l 18" fr500 on BF Goodrich KDW2 l Powdercoated Valve Covers l GDM Trunk Lid Mat
All the ported mods will carry over to the whipple should you decide later to go that route. Your ported blower sale will net most if not all your cash back for the port. The only loss will be for the tune and effort to get the ported blower installed. A ported will give you 500+. A whipple will get you 600+. What goals have you defined?

I think that 600 is my goal in the long run but I've heard its hard to put to the ground with these cars as well. I don't street race very much at all but I do get on it every once and awhile and I go to the track a few times a year as well so I cannot decide what I should do. Now I know that the port is probaly the best for the money but it seems that as soon as a lot of people do the port within a months time they are trying to sell it and go twinscrew?
If 600 is your goal, a port won't do it. So you don't street race much and don't go to the track much either. Whom are you trying to beat and what do they have? 500 for the street is a lot. I wouldn't bother with a whipple unless you went to the track semi-frequently. Street tires will limit you off the track anyways. I don't go to the track but wanted more for the hell of it. Have a posi port sitting in the garage, waiting on a Fore differential cover.
Well also do not forget all the supporting fuel mods for both setup which will add up quick, i am in the same boat as you and did some price shopping and i came up with around 4500-5k for a ts setup with all supporting mods not including suspension mods, a posi race port route with all supporting mods around 2k or so. Everyone will always want more that is what hp does to our minds lol, but like the above post stated you could always go with a port route then when you get bored sell it for around the same price you had it done for and then get the whipple.

IF you have the $ go twin screw. Im in a similar position. Kenne Bell 2.8 after Christmas! I never go to the track, although I would like to more often. Drive my car a day or two a week depending on the weather.

Of course money is an issue otherwise I would have went twin turbo ha. I have considered the supporting mods in the equation as well and I too have figured after tuning and install and everything with a whipple it would be around 5k but with a port probaly only around 2k so to me 3k is a big difference and I really don't know if the hp difference can really justify the additional cost. Regardless, i have always wanted a whipple but it just seems that the port is a more practical option.
As has been said a couple of times, go port now and when you have the money step up to the Whipple. You'll get most if not all of your money back out of the port when you sell it and the supporting mods will already be on the car.

That is what I'm thinking, I just cannot decide if I should go with the port setup because of the additional cost of install and tuning.
Just do yourself a favor and get a 2.3 or even a 3.4 now. I told my self that i'm happy with just being a pullied car and now i have a 2.3 and want more lol.

Blower ports have come a long way and you've already got a SBTB now.
You can run a 2.76/4lb combo like you said and it'll pull up pretty good in the rpm's. Then not fall off. So you'd be able to shift at least around 6,200 or more which in my mind is a fun ride. I do a lot to these ports to make sure they don't feel like stock Eaton's that quit pulling and you can feel the car nose over.
If you know no matter what you're going twin screw when you can afford it then by all means go that route.

I'm in the same boat and I'm going with the Posi port. I will use the 3k to due my suspension first. I've done 550rwhp with my 94 331 stroker and couldn't hook up for squat. If you have the money go TS. I need to take baby steps even though I want to go big.

I'm leaning in this direction as well because despite the board being heavily favored on going whipple, I cannot persuade myself for the additional costs. Besides I think the port will be a great step in the heiarchy of power. Besides I'm still on my stock clutch so if it goes out, I will have a better chance of being able to afford to upgrade it with a port vs a whipple.

I skipped the ported route and went KB...I picked up a used 2.2, and it will be on the car shortly when I get my ass in gear...anyway, the way I look at it, if I ever sell the car, I can sell the Kenne Bell, if do sell the car, and get the eaton ported or just put the stock Eaton back on there...
The reason KB is not on my car yet is because every little bit adds up...belts, gaskets, miscellaneous parts...it's not just a blower and supporting mods...it's the little things that are taking hits out of my wallet right now...
