Yes, chambered mufflers and O/R X-pipes tend to have quite the rasp, buy an O/R H-pipe to go with the Super 40's, they got many compliments when I had that set up.

Agreed. I have 2 chamber flowmaster 40s (originals) and I had a pypes o/r X and it sounded great. But it wasn't the deep muscle I wanted. I switched to a MAC o/r H and it sounds so much better (if deep muscle is what you are going for). I get compliments on it all the time and it really turns heads.
I don't think they sound that raspy either (I have a UPR O/R X with Super 40s). To me, it's very throaty and more of a higher pitch growl vs the h-pipe growl. It sounds really good...but I wished they were as loud as my old LM1s!

I have Super 44's with a UPR O/R X. Sounds INSANE.

flows are cool but imo borla, bassani, maganflow make a better exhaust .
Workmanship I may agree with you, I had the Magna CB and it is a work of art however the sound was weak! I kept the CB but swapped the Magna muffs out for Flows!
As far as sound:
Borla = Snap, Crackle, Pop
Bassani =sweet sound but way over priced
Magnaflow = top notch quality but weak sounding, especially in the presence of other Mustangs with aftermarket exhausts

I agree also, I kept my Magnaflow cat-back pipes and just change mufflers out when I get bored of the sound, the Magnaflow fitment and quality is definately great compared to Mac or Flowmaster but the sound is weak.
Right now I have an O/R X pipe with SLP 1's. WOW that thing is crazy loud. I however cant where the SC anymore so im guna tone it done a little. I think Im guna go with the super 44's.

I have a used set of super 44's, IRS offset, low miles, PM me if you interested.

well, if your looking to knock birds out of trees by all mean go with flows.
My flows are too effing loud and drouny. I'm ditching them and getting Super Turbo Dyno Max mufflers. I have them on order and I'll install them this weekend.
Not trying to thread jack here, but whats the difference between the super 40s and the original 40s? I had the original 40s on my last mustang and they sounded amazing, i recently bought a 2001 cobra and want to go flowmasters again but the only flowmaster catback ive seen for a 2001 cobra have super 40s. Do they sound less agressive?

The diff is supposedly the Super 40s "flow" better than the original 40 series muffs and sound more aggressive according to FlowMaster. I had original 40s on my 02GT and now I have the Super40s on my 03 Cobra. I can't tell the diff but they are two diff cars. Anyways the sound is the FlowMaster sound I love, if you liked the original 40s you'll like the Super40s.
So basically its the same sounding exhaust, flowmasters just changed some minor things and put a new name on it? Either way, if it has the same great flowmaster sound i cant go wrong!
I had o/r x with super 40's it sounds strange to me under decel. I'm sure an o/r h or pro chamber will help the sound. The super 40 is a bigger muffler than a 40. The case height is taller. Thats the reason mine are gone they hit all the time with my springs.

I have had 3ich dynomax ultra flow mufflers on my car since dec 02. They sounded great for years but being old they got real loud and make a raspy noise if I wind out first to long. But I will say many people love the way my car sounds. I also have a catted 2.5 h on the car.
