DBK, I'm an engineer, so don't lecture me about Cd this and frontal area that. I'm pretty sure the S7 and GT have similar frontal areas, and given the S7's lower Cd, it would be more aerodynamic.
I would bet money you were in the 750 HP Saleen that day because the 1000 HP version probably wasn't out yet. I would also bet you don't want to admit how much better that car was all around. I don't care if Joe's GT has 1200 WHP, it's not going to murder a 1000 crank HP Saleen like you seem to think it will.
I have heard there will be third party top speed test of a 750 HP Saleen later this year. Maybe we will get some hard numbers in a few months. Until then, tell Joe to get that thing off the street and onto a track so we can see some numbers, because without numbers, we are just BSing each other.
Nate

They make three flavors of the Saleen S7 TT. Joe was probably messing around with the 750 HP model. They go up to 1000 HP from the factory. They also have much more traction due to larger tires and much better aerodynamics than the FGT. But like everyone said, the Saleen is about 500-600K as opposed to the 160-200K FGT. Nate.
...and I said against Joe's car, the topic of this thread and only thing I'm commenting on, even with 1000hp(CRANK) it wasn't going to matter. I'm not arguing which is the better car. The GT is a far better road car, the S7 is a far better race car because that's what it is; a race car legalized for the street. I've got a good relationship with Steve and his company who have treated me well.
It was the 750hp model, and I never said it wasn't. But if you're an engineer it should be obvious a car that makes maybe 840rwhp and rolls on hard street rubber is not going to beat one that makes close to 400rwhp more on race rubber (Joe's car, the topic of this thread). One is a purpose built drag car, and it's going to win in a straight line.

And with that, I'm out.
They are essentially 2 different cars, like comparing a GT500 to a GT, totally different and better for their own reasons, everyone has their own preferences.
What has been done to joe's engine exactly, we all want to know. What internals did you go with? Billet rods, ect? cam specs? How much did you p&p his head? What is the engines new redline?
Joes new motor has better pistons, rods, (not sure on what make) new valvetrain, ie cams, oversized valves, springs, retainers, ported heads new fuel system, custom rails, 4 ford GT pumps, twin 60lb injectors per cylinder...and 2 bigger GT42r turbos...but it hasnt been dynoed yet with the new turbos
To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic.
im not sure..but i know 2 ford Gt pumps are good for 1000rwhp!! they are running 4 in Joes car..i will just be running 2...so im sure 1 is good for 500rwhp or so
I doubt this as well.....there are no published numbers from ford. What is published is the fact that the GT can hit it's redline in 5th on stock power. 212mph with ~515 rwhp means the car has pretty good aero. The fact that the S7 makes so much downforce would be a BIG disadvantage over 200mph.
Stock it comes with two 32lb injectors per cylinder. NICE!

The Saleen also has a top speed of 250+ mph. I don't see the GT, with it's much poorer aerodynamics, attaining that any time soon.
The GT's transmission and final gearing were designed so it can do the 0-60 in 1st gear, and reach it's top speed in 5th. The maximum mph that can be attained in the car in 6th at 6500rpm's is 159mph.
I think joe's GT has enough power to make it there, especially with well over double the HP.
I doubt it will ever reach that though because I don't think there's a road long enough to find out.
I doubt it will ever reach that though because I don't think there's a road long enough to find out.
The last road you turn on to get to Gainesville raceway is about 5 miles long and nearly all streight. SEVERAL roads around this area will work well for that, I'm sure the Gainesville, Jax and Orlando natives can all show you some "private tracks"
GTSpartan, you my boy Blue. Thanks for helping a brother out.
satx, I searched quite a few sites for those Cd numbers, I think they are accurate. The Saleen has great downforce WITH low drag, difficult to do but not impossible.
DBK/Joe, I think it would be awesome if you guys could find out who is doing the third party top speed testing of the Saleen and test Joe's GT at the same time. That would make for an awesome magazine shootout. They could throw in a Turbo Hayabusa and a F-18/YF-22 or something similarly cool to spice things up a bit.
DBK, I agree with jj so this will be my final Saleen VS GT argument. Maybe if I'm ever in your neck of the woods you could make my day and take me for a ride in your GT.
Where you with Joe and Tony G for the GT meet at Ford. This is what Tony wrote up after the meet.
Not sure where to begin but I must say it was one of the best few days of my life..
Here is a brief recap.. When I catch my breath I will fill in the details...
We flew up in Joe's plane on Wed and arrived in Dearborn Michigan that afternoon. The world stopped turning as we arrived at the Ritz Carlton and saw GT's in every color made and they were in every parking space!!!
Thursday was the day we went to SSV. The GT is actually assembled at the Saleen plant and then shipped to Wixom for the engine and final details.
It was an unbelieveable day.. Steve Saleen and Ford threw a hell of a party. We toured, hell we went thru every crevice at the plant and saw the team in action.
A few S7's were there and they were giving rides in it too!! We had Joes TT GT there and we gave rides in it too! 38 of them to be exact!! WE met and gave rides to the men behind the GT and they were very impressed.. Actually impressed is not exactly what they were.. It was more like astounded!
More on that in a minute!
During the day I ended up behind the S7 on one of his test drives and as he accelerated at full throttle I mashed the pedal and ran it down!! When we returned from the test drive "Brian" who was the S7 driver came over and wanted a ride in the TT GT!!!! I obliged and gave him an E-ticket ride he and I will never forget!!
I also gave Camillo a ride.. Camillo is the Artist and designer of the GT and we had a blast as we went thru a stoplight at over 140mph!! LOLOL Yikes!!!
Friday brought us to World Ford Headquarters where we met all the engineers and directors and did a photo shoot..
Then the phone call............
Ladies and gentlemen.. Even as I type this I get teary eyed... The team at SVT (SVE) invited us to their world.. We snuck away from everyone and the 5 of us, me, Sherry, Dwight (Stage 6), Nero (Titan Motorsports), and of course Joe! headed over...
When we got there we were escorted in to the "Skunkworks" and Joe's GT went on the rack where the first GT was built and they did a complete safety inspection before mounting a fresh set of Hoosier race tires on the front to match the rears.......
"Gene" then informed us of the plan..
Now I will call this a dream because I offer no proof, no pictures, no video, just memories of the most intense 2 hours of my life....They drove us thru multiple gates and behind all this security they led us to the Ford proving grounds!!!!!!!!!
"Gene" is da man.. Ok this guy is the luckiest man on earth (Well almost, he doesnt have Sherry as his wife) but lucky nonetheless he is the "Test Driver" of all the Ford vehicles!!
Gene drove the GT with Joe at his side onto the proving grounds and that is where the world stood still..
After signing in blood (Ok, so it was a pen) that we were not there to steal Ford secrets and to be safe while there we watched as Gene put his helmet on and proceeded onto the 42 acre facility and spent the next 30-40 minutes putting the GT thru its paces.. It never missed a beat............
Let me tell you all that there is NOTHING like seeing something that you created being driven on the FORD proving grounds.. Speeds faster than 175mph and drifts at over 100mph!!!..
When he pitted for the 1st time he told us he was approaching 180mph but didnt want to push the stock brakes to failure and slowed for the embankments..
Yes folks, Joe's GT is the FASTEST vehicle to EVER grace the proving grounds and thats by 25mph according to Gene and the crew there..
I leaned in to the check the guages and he patted my shoulder and said " Everything is perfect" "You should be very proud of this vehicle" He proceeded to take Joe for a "ride" and then Dwight.
I was next but Sherry noticed something in the drivers rear tire and although I was a little let down for not getting a "ride" I was still trying to keep my composure and not lose it in front of everyone.. I was so happy just to see and be part of something like that that I probably would have lost it!
Tears of Joy... In that moment I shared with Sherry my emotional state and had to walk away..
We got back into the van and rode back to SVT.. I looked back as long as I could see the grounds so as not to forget what they looked like.
At SVE they swapped the front tires and even gave Joe a new set of Hoosiers on the rear and we left to catch up to the party at Ford.
I will let Sherry mention the names of the people we met and chatted with that were very interested in what we had done.. You wont believe who they are!!!!
Tony G
So needless to say, Tony G. and the guys at HP will be getting the Shelby after the break-in miles are put on it. I'm hoping to see great things also.
I guess that's why everybody says Tony Gognon is the MAN! Every person I've talked to and everything I've read on these forums says the same thing. Congrats to that whole bunch and I'm looking forward to have them work on my car!
