Rearend Questions....

For starts I have a 92 mustang (notch) that started life as a 4 cylinder. as the new motor is close to being finished (398w with a C4) I need to upgrade my rearend. I was told that I could beefup the stock rearend to handle the power, any info on this? and will any 8.8 rearend bolt right up? also will a stock size 5.0 drive shaft work or will I need a custom one?

Guy's have put that rearend into the 8's with the right mods.

You won't have a problem finding that rearend. Call DTS or somebody like that for the bearing/shim kit and toss in a set of Moser axles and you'll be good to go.

your talking about the stock 7.5" rear right? so they do have upgrades for them.

I would not upgrade the stock 4 cyl 7.5" rear. Any 8.8 with minimal upgrades (mainly axles) will handle your 398.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the stock 8.8.

The only thing that 7.5 is good for is a boat anchor. Check the forums or the junkyards for one. If the budget is tight, it will fly with the stock stuff so long as you stay away from slicks.

Toss the 7.5 rear as it will chit out the internals in no time with that 398W

Buy a 8.8.... its a direct bolt in

Have a professional welder weld the axle tubes to the center section
Install a locker unit of some sorts... I have always like Auburn PRO units
Install some 31 Spline Moser Axles
Install a T/A Girdle

If you want to go all the way with mods to an 8.8 ...cut of the ends & weld on 9 inch bearing retainers. It adds strength and eliminates the c-clips.
