So most of you know that I have to sell my mustang. the tough economy has got me. However, I do not want to give the car away. I am wondering if I buy a set of stock wheels & remove the drag wheels if this would help me get more money out of the car. should I sell the welds & buy some stock wheels?
also, considering cutting the nice rollbar I had installed out. think this is hurting the value. opinions?
last, a friend of mine has a wrecked car w/all drivetrain. thinking of putting stock stuff back in mine & keeping/poss. parting out my stuff.
I have over 30k invested. I know it is a sunk cost but I see junkers going for 10 w/no mods. Mine is very nice & a well sorted out combo. I am willing to let it go for 13900.. the way it sits but it seems that isn't even possible. anybody got any thoughts. I might just hang onto it. its just the longer I keep it the more interested on my credit card I am paying.
Jeff

Jeff, I watched the auction and it did pretty much what I though it would...typical Ebay but thats a whole other subject. Honestly I thought it did pretty well.
Realistically even with the nice paint, clean interior, stock wheels and the engine put back to stock your looking at $11k max if you could even get it. Don't get me wrong, nice car but nobody will pay more that knows the market.
The way I see it, your aftermarket stuff that has the most money tied up in it are:
1.Supercharger......duh
2.Rearend
3.Cylinder heads w/rockers
4.Intake all the way back to the MAF
5.Transmission and everthing to make it work
Hell, that's 7k easy in parts bought new and generally highly sought after parts. Use the 50 cents on the dollar for used parts.......well, you do the math.
In my opinion, IF you had all of the stock stuff it would be a no-brainer to me. Put it back to factory, kick it out the door for $10.5k and sell the aftermarket stuff for half-price or better.
Now the bitch is I know you don't have that option, so the question is what is it going to cost you to get back to stock? If it costs you $2k to put it back to factory and you pull $5k out of the goodies, that still only puts you at $13500 for a grand total....not including your labor.
And keep the rollbar. I'm sure you've got a grand wrapped up in that too, but I consider those freebies.
That's the way I calculate these things (been there done that) and my 2 cents.

93' Cobra with a cogged NOVI 2k, R331
good points. that is what I thought of doing, selling all the performance parts.. I am just affraid if I do that & still can't sell it I will have something I don't want (with alot more time tied up in it)
hopefully Hec will just come up w/a little more & just buy it from me as is..
I just checked out your car on the Ebay auction and it looks like a nice ride. The problem - from a selling perspective - is that it looks like a pretty serious street/strip car. Some may be looking for that but I think you are going to appeal to a greater audience with a fast car that looks stock. I would leave the roll bar in as that actually serves some good safety and performance functions. I would focus on the outside and try to give it a more stock look since that is the appeal to a Cobra. Remove the numbers, put on some stock wheels, and consider a factory hood. I would also pull any pics of burnouts and racing from any ads. Showing that you race it a lot may scare some potential owners. I think for the most part, the audience you are appealing to are a group of guys that want a 93 cobra, want it to be fast, may need to get it by the "wife test", and realistically want something reliable and fun to drive on nice days - I'd be surprised if most of your audience is looking to spend a lot of time at the track.

If I see a mustang with weld wheels on it the first thing I think is that it has been beat to death. Then to see photos of that only makes me not want to buy it more.Im more into a stock looking car that is fast then a race car look that only shows it gets beat on.Now the roll cage sure its a safety thing but someone who wants a nice street car may be turned off by it.I would not want to have one since it looks ugly and takes away from the inside of the car.For a track car sure have a cage for a street car no maybe just a four point

I think your car is awesome the way it is, but then again your car seems to fit my style pretty well. If I had the cash, I would have already flown to Florida and bought it. I never understood why things like Welds and roll bars scare people into thinking a car was beat. I see "beating" a car as driving it like an idiot and not maintaining it. A car that is raced (like it was built for) but maintained well is definitely not what I would considered 'beaten", but that's just my opinion. If that's the case, then I don't see why people build motors and put power adders on cars if they don't plan on having fun with it. I think the market is just not great at the moment and I don't really think there is anything wrong with your car. I see a lot of nice cars being given away and it's just the way it is right now. Some street wheels might help, but it may still be tough to get what you want from it until you just find the right buyer. Good luck with your sale and I hope you get top dollar for the car because from what I can tell, it looks well worth it.
thanks rc... I think I am gonna keep it until the right person comes along.
I told myself, the bottom dollar I would take.. & right now the highest offer has be 12k.. I don't mind taken a hit.. but at one point I considered if I was a buyer what was out there..
and all i find is car that are inferior for the dollar I am asking for mine.
