I noticed today that my center console gets pretty damn warm after afew mins of driving and i couldnt really figure out why Could it be the longtubes? anyone have this problem?
did you change ur shifter? if so all the seals back around the shifter?
yea. ive had my MGW for afew months and used the aftermarket gasket but that things is so distorted i just used RTV on the shifter base. but its hot around cup holders, the sides of the center console where my knee is.
Ill have to remove my trans soon, so i guess ill do like said above and insult it some how..
My old 97 GT used to have the same issue. Stock exhaust manifolds, offroad x-pipe, b&m shifter... all along the center console would get pretty warm... the ashtray would get extremely hot to the touch
do you have stock gears? 3.73's? 4.10's?

Mine wouldn't get hot, and I drove the car from Raliegh, NC to Tampa on several occasions with 4.30's in the car. I drove it from Detroit, MI to Raliegh, NC with the 4.10 about a dozen times or more. No issues...
hmm, i may have found the problem but not sure. the little goldish looking plate that holds the rubber boot down isnt there so maybe the heat is just blowing in from the shifter hole.
I have the same problem in mine with long tubes. The last time I had the transmission out I bought some heat shield with the adhesive backing and put it in the trans tunnel. I didn't have enough to cover the whole tunnel so some heat still gets in but it's not near as bad as it used to be.

would make sense air blowing under the car and the gap from the seal being broke forcing the hot air off the exhaust up under the center console trapping the hot air
I had the same problem when I installed my hammer shifter. After a while of driving in 95 degree weather I wouldn't be able to hold the shifter cause it was so Damn hot. To try and solve it I put the car on a lift and started putting some dynomat to cover the hole. It helped out a bit, the shifter no longer gets as hot as it use to...
Seems like a pretty common problem. Could just be due to design. I use to have the same problem occasionally, mainly on summer nights when I've been running the Mach hard. I wouldn't have thought twice about it until I noticed my leg was getting kinda hot.
