I just bought a pair of '04 Cobra seats for my 1999. After receiving them, I was cleaning them up prior to installation when I noticed that I don't have a matching pair. Rather, I have two passenger-side seats, one with the seatbelt bolted onto the other side so that looks like a driver-side seat at first glance. I literally have two identical seats. Of course, they should be mirror images to each other, with the driver-side having power seat tracks (the "driver" side has manual tracks right now).
The good news is that the seats are gorgous. They're the black inserts and they are in immaculate condition. It doesn't look like anyone has ever sat in them before. Just beautiful.
So what are my options? I was thinking of trying to find a driver-side seat from someone and using its frame. I'd then swap the Cobra seat's padding, internals, and skins onto the donor frame. Of course, I'd still also need to find a power seat track, too. Doing this will still leave me with a few small holes in the leather where various latches were. I have the original '99 seats in my garage with power tracks, but I hate to ruin them. I'd like to sell them.
That's too bad. Doesn't that also mean the seat recline lever would be stuffed up against the drive shaft tunnel on the drivers side?
That's exactly right. And the little latch to move the seat forward (to allow access to the back seat) is on the inboard side of the driver seat, making it nearly impossible to move the seat forward. I have a little guy that needs to get into the backseat, so that's a big deal for me.
Wouldn't it just be easier if there weren't a bunch of unscrupulous people around?
for what you prob. payed make them take them back, anyone who is selling those seats would notice right away that they are two passenger seats, get your money back and buy the right seats

That would be ideal. We'll see if the guy wants to be stand-up or not.
I got to hand it to people. Never would I even have imagined being ripped off in this manner. Maybe I'm naive, but it never occurred to me that someone might try to pass off two passenger seats as a pair.
Not that I'm advocating this, but in an ex-girlfriend's 2-door Cavalier we had cause to switch the driver's and passanger's seat around (we were in college on a super tight budget) so I know what it was like dealing with the lever and the swith to get into the back being on the wrong side and it really wasn't that bad. It's liveable but not something I would want to do long term, especially not when I can imagine what you spent on those seats...
I'd talk to the seller and see if they'll make it right. That information should have been disclosed at the time of sale.

OP I think the only swapping you should be thinking of is swapping your foot from the ground to up the sellers ass. Something like that is blantantly obvious and can't be written off to 'non mechanical experience'

nothing wrong with the seats at all. not even the usual drivers side wear. no tears no nothing. im not taking more pics bc i feel these are enough and the seats are perfect ne way. the seats have maybe 15k miles on em. they were in my 99 for about 3k an came out of a termi that only had 12k'ish
He obviosly knew and even went out of his way to say how there is no drivers side wear. Well no shit, of course there wouldn't be drivers side wear on a passengers side seat. It also says in the sales add that you picked up the seats. Does this mean you are somewhat local to CD03? If so it is time to go pay a visit in person.
Shitty situation, man. How the hell does anyone end up with two dark charcoal passenger seats?! Those are already relatively rare.
Isn't that wild?? I can't imagine how this happened originally.

Well the real shitty thing is that I actually went to pick them up. When I saw them, I was so intent on looking at the condition of the leather and suede (microfiber, or whatever it is called) that I didn't notice that someone had just swapped around the lower seatbelt. At first glance, they looked completely normal. It wasn't until I got home and started cleaning them up that I realized what I had.

somewhat. I'm down towards Cincinnati, while he's northeast of Cleveland.
im going to fix this. im not some internet scammer. it was a stupid situation and stupid overall. no i didnt swap the drivers or whatever. the way the seats are is actualy how i got them. i dont use the rear seat so the rear seat thing i didnt even think about. where i got the seats from, i was aware the bottom was not power on the drivers side and bought them anyway. i dont use the seat belt brackets either so those holes made no difference to me either and i rly didnt even think about those seatbelt holders until i mentioned them, and when i realized they were on the seats in my 01 and not these. the guy actually put the seats in for me and i was very happy with them however, not every1 can b so easily pleased an i realize that so i will do what i can to make things right.
but to an above post, im also saying the bottm lever thing rly didnt occur to me. it was just how i got the seats an i dont use my back seat so the top of the seat to me is fine. the bottom has all the stuff on the side by the center console. for what its worth, i did tell him that the seat was not power on the drivers side. and i wasnt trying to hide anything at all when picked up. i didnt have them in boxes or covered up or anything. they were just sitting right ther.
