But, seriously, if they are only charging $300, let them do it. I've done it twice by myself and it's not that hard, but it is time consuming, especially the first time you do it. Pay the $300, that's worth it, and I always work on my car.

i bet his blown motor is a spun bearing due to not enough oil...we wont know until the engine is off though.

Agreed. It's right in line with what the reputable shops (after I was pointed at a couple) in my area charge for it. They're all around $700 for removal and reinstallation.

Ever thought about taking the car off the engine instead? Makes it easier that way.

I'm picturing starting the car and the engine taking off, leaving the car behind...the driver left speechless holding the steering wheel, wide eyed and dismayed.
"Dude, hold your ears. My neighbor's 99 Cobra engine is about to take off..."
"Really? Where does he launch from?"
"His driveway. It's so badass"

But on a serious note, you gotta! gotta! gotta! make sure you have that thing called motor before you remove the engine, you dont wanna start taking stuff out then you realize your car has a motor instead off an engine
....trust me this shit is very complicated.....If its an engine the best way to take it off is throught the firewall....works for me all the time.....Are you feeling on this shit!!!!

Ya don't take it off, you take it out. Also, your engine (and you) getting blown is a good thing, blowing however is bad.
As how to remove it, buy yourself a haynes manual.
