starving for fuel

i had a problem with my Cobra last time i had a bad gas tank, it was all rusted on the inside and i think my brand new focus fuel pump got overheated 'cause of that, i changed the fp with another Focus unit and when my car has half a quarter tank of gas (if that's correct) it will make the same thing bogs like i'm going out of gas

so my question is

is there a way that my fuel pump doesn't run out of fuel?? i'm guessin' that when my car is at WOT all the fuel gets to the back of the tank and thats why my car bogs like at 6-7k rpm
when i'm at half a tank it works perfectly but i don't want that soo much fuel on my car at the dragstrip (weight)

i put the Focus basket 'cause it had a new sending unit over my all rusted stock unit,

thank you for your time

I had the Focus pump but it didn't do anything for me. I replaced it with the Aviator pump and added a Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump. I know you're trying to save gas at the track but running out of fuel at WOT isn't a real good thing either. I wouldn't let your car get below a quarter tank of gas ever, just because of the way the 99-01 tanks are designed. If you really want to fix the problem for good and have no worries then get the 03-04 tank and pumps or one big aftermarket pump other than the Focus.

I've also heard our tanks are pretty bad at under a quarter tank of gas. Personally, the added 10lbs of fuel is located perfectly atop the rear tires, right where traction is needed off the line.

I too plan on doing the KB BAP on my car soon (need it for the Vortech project next month), possibly with the stock pump. Haven't decided yet.

Sounds like you need baffles around the fuel pump pick-up to keep the fuel from rushing to the back of the tank leaving the pick-up high and dry. You could sump the tank but that will make your fuel tank prone to bursting open should you run over something or back over it. No need to tell you what can happen if that should occur. A larger pump won't help you in this situation. The 03/04 Cobra tanks are already baffled for this purpose.

so thats why i felt more traction with half a tank lol. well its better to loose a .10 in the quarter than a fuel pump i guess

thanks for the help guys
