I have had the vetch on my cobra for a while now, but I have been lazy about getting around to putting gears in it. My cobra had 4.10 when I bought it, then I swapped to a SRA with 3.27. My buddy gave me a set of 4.10 5 years ago, and they have been rusting I'm my garage since. I have always wanted to attempt a gear swap, I figured since I had a free gear set it wouldn't cost too much to do it myself. I also went ahead and ordered a carbon clutch pack for the LSD. It only took about 5 hours to do the swap, but we were really taking our time measuring everything exact. It really wasn't that hard since we had the right tools.
My impression of my cobra now are that it runs like a raped ape. It really helped with the lack of get up and go and taking off under normal conditions. First time I got on it it put me back so hard in my seat that I couldn't reach my 2-3 shift. I moved my seat up a little and went again. Third gear pull is insane. I can't believe how good nittos hook on the street, but when you get on the track they suck balls. I can't wait to get back to the track in two weeks. My previous best was 8.05 @ 92 1/8 and 12.15 @117. My best 60' was a 1.97. I think the gears are going to help me get out of the hole. I was also having some tuning issues last time I was at the track that have now been fixed. I will also be on mickey Thompson's this time.
i hear ya brother i dyno'd 550 with a 327 and loved then got home switched the gear to a 4:10 and holly shit it sure does come alive alot quicker and longer huh. congrats man good luck getting that first gear to hook up time for slicks
I remember when I had 4.30's w/ my 3650 making 605rwhp w/ my s-trim, Useless 1-3 gear lol. Then I went with a T-56 and twins and its useless 1-4th gear.
glad you finally saw the light! So much miss info out there. For years I saw posts on 4.10's being too steep a gear for a supercharger mustang/cobra. That may hold true for many PD blown or Turbo mustangs... but not in a centrifugal blown 4V motor.

OK SO what your saying is I NEED to pull those 3.27's out when I slap the Vortech on?
I've heard the same thing how a 4.10 would be too steep and go 3.73's?

4.10s aren't right for everyone, it depends on what you want to do with the car. I am going more towards a track car. I did the gear calculations and figured with 4.10 I should be toping out in the high 120s in the 1/4. I figured when I build my motor and turn up the boost I should be trapping in that range. It will be interesting to see how much mph I will pick up by just going to the 4.10. With 3.27s I was trapping 117, but I was only making boost in third gear and shifting into fourth right before the finish line. It also did not have enough low end grunt to get out of the hole. My best 60' on 305 drag radials was 1.94, and I have full drag suspension on my cobra. I am going to the track tomorrow to see how the new setup is going to work.
This is one of my mods for the winter.. I love the 3.55's but with the .50 6th gear I can't use 6th gear unless i'm doing 70mph.. I'm actually getting worse gas mileage becaus i'm in the throttle more than I need to be just to maintain speed..

I went to the track on Saturday, but I was a little disappointed. Then Sunday I realized I had a brain fart. I was having traction problems, and couldn't figure out why. On Sunday I realized I had forgot to take my front sway bar off. Even with the traction problems I ran my best time. There was also a strong head wind that was keeping my 1/4 times down. My previous best 1/8 was a 8.05 @92mph, my new best is a 7.90@93. My old best 1/4 was 12.15 @117 with a 1.99 60ft. My new best is 12.13 @118 with a 1.89 60ft. Somehow I knocked 1.5 tenths off my 1/8, but only picked up 2 thousandths in the 1/4 even with my mph being higher than before. I don't know if the timing equipment was reading exactly right. I made some improvemnt. I think I can knock a good bit off my 60' if I take off my sway bar next time.
