EVO 8 67mm@25psi vs C6 LS3 Corvette and C5 Corvette(DAYTIME FOOTAGE)

How does this happen but yet, a 674RWHP Viper gets it's ass kicked hard. These EVO's seem similar.

Your comparing two forced induction cars....with one being 3.5 times the displacement of the Evo and 2.5 times the cylinders.

Torque sure does help win races. Especially if you can get a nice instant jump on a car with it, and then hold it off with a good amount of HP. Evo had crazy traction in the first race, and was brake boosting in the second, negating the viper's massive torque advantage.

You're right. Torque has nothing to do with acceleration. The hamsters on wheels are what get the car going...

Torque has everything to do with acceleration!! HP gets you to high speeds, torque is the instant acceleration you feel.

Exactly, look at most small motors with huge turbos, if the the leave the line at idle they are slow because of lack of torque. Hp is calculated from trq on the dyno.

How can a car continue to accelerate once torque is descending(see dyno graph)?

Torque only measures where hp will end up. Horsepower is a measurement of work and torque is defined as being a rotational force. I would rather have torque in higher rpm's with a linear curve than peak hp down low. What if you had an engine that made 10,000ft/lbs of torque easily. But it ran at 1rpm. (10000ft/lbs * 1rpm) / 5252 = 1.904 hp.

(3 ft/lb of torque @ 2 RPM) / 5252 = .0011424 HP

(1 ft/lb of torque @ 8 RPM) /5252 = .0015232 hp

The reason why the Evo continues to pull is due to rpm and the ability to take advantage of gearing.

They accelerate much much slower at speed because the torque is descending duh.(wind resistance obviously plays its part as well)

lots of torque in the high rpms = low torque in the low rpms=crappy drivability and laggy performance.

Sorry man, you are being totally retarded if you think two similar weight cars, and the one with 600awhp car is pulling bus lengths on a 675rwhp car. A car that thrives on high speed runs to boot.

This has nothing to do with this being a Viper. As has been stated already, HP is HP. That Evo had at least 100rwhp advantage to pull the way he did.

We are not at all questioning who won (it's clear as day), but questioning the reported power numbers for each car.

Your ability to ascertain torque/hp is lacking severely.

The higher your torque is throughout the rpm, is what dictates hp. Again, here's a simple analysis:

(3 ft/lb of torque @ 2 RPM) / 5252 = .0011424 HP

(1 ft/lb of torque @ 8 RPM) /5252 = .0015232 hp

This is why increasing displacement, does not automatically increase hp.

Trust me, I would not feel like shit at all if a Evo kicked my ass. There is always someone faster, and when it's all said and done, I go home in a Viper and he goes home in a glorified Lancer.

Not trying to be pompous, just telling it like it is.

25psi god dude you just stick your foot in your mouth in every single thread, if you had taken a simple physics class in high school you would know that torque is the cause of acceleration.....there is no need for an explanation or rebuttal when dumb ass retarded statements like you made are typed in this thread or any other automotive thread
