This is one of my all-time favorite kills......
I was coming home from KFC with a bucket full of chicken when a guy in a brand new (paper tags) BMW X5is raced up from behind me, squeezed between me and a panel truck, just to get the front position at the next light. He was anxious to leave the light, so I figured I'd at least ride his butt for awhile and let him know he's not going to walk away from a Lightning. We played cat and mouse for a mile or so, then lined up side by side at a red light.
He had his g/f (wife?) in the car with him and I could tell he wanted to go from a dead stop. On the green light, his AWD and 340 HP pulled about a car length on me, but I got that back within the first 100 feet and quickly pulled another four-five lengths on him before I hit the brakes at 120 MPH. He did a fly-by and as he passed through a well lit intersection, smoke was pouring out from under his brand new BMW......not normal!
I wonder if his $60K BMW was promptly returned to the dealer?

Nice to hear a $60K import gettin' layed a Smack Down by a domestic that's nearly half the price! Beware there is another Domestic truck coming soon that will probably walk the mighty L but at what cost I do not know. The big Dodge SRT-10 500HP!
way to show those yuppie idiots that their car is way over priced!!....hopefully they spilled their $6.00 cup of starbucks coffee all over the new leather seats.
It's nice to hear when Lightning crashes, Beemers die!!!!!

Yeah, so I've heard. Supposedly the SRT-10 is a 5,600 lb. hippo and it's going to need 500 HP just to compete. It's also ugly as sin, and will be priced well above the Lightning ($45-50K). And don't think for one minute the SVT gang hasn't started plans for something to match it. Like maybe GT-40 heads and different cams for the Lightning making it a 32-valve, DOHC, 500 HP engine????

5600Lbs, correction 5000lbs. Still heavy but it still hauls and handles, 0-60 5.0 flat, 1/4 in under 13.0sec, 150MPH top end, skidpad and .92G's at 70mph! Weight doesn't seem to be an issue.
2K1 Lightning (Ford Numbers): 0-60 low 6's, 1/4 14.3, skidpad and slalom 0.9 g and 61.3 mph
(Sorry I sound like a Dodge commercial)
I'm a Ford guy but how could you call that "ugly as sin"? I think that the Dodge looks Bad A$$!, but you know everyone has their preference. I love the big black grill, hood scoops, 24-inch wheels and 305/35 R24 and the side cladding nevermind all that, I like it all! The manual is going to be an issue with people that don't know how to drive with all that power 500hp/500lbs torque. Don't get me wrong for the $ I would still get a Lightning or the F150SC Harley but if the Dodge was $40k i'd be going down that road. Think of the HP's when it moded.....

Hulk,
I don't hate on the german fellows, but why is it that the majority of the drivers behind the wheel of a beemer, benz, or for that matter a VW think they are "god" like and can't be touched. I relaize they have some quick rides and all the luxuries money can buy (in some cars)!.........does that make them better than our American Muscle????

I havent found that around here.
I have owned a bunch of german cars and I am buying another one.
I have found more of the problem that you describe with the import people(japanese cars, etc.)
what was the best german car you have owned?.....I agree with you regarding the japanese imports, you must live in a very different area than here in western PA
Would you get rid of your Lightning for a german SUV???

Where did you get your ford numbers chap?
I have a car and driver mag right in front of me that says 0-60 in 5.2 and a 13.8 1/4 mile.
Ford posts a highly conservative 5.8 number on the 0-60.
If you look around you'll find that real people are putting up low 13.2's bone stock on F1's. Try racing one in that GT if yours and see what happens
As far as Dodges truck, those numbers are what dodge claims. I'll take starting numbers when the magazines get one. I'll truely believe what real people put up on the track.
btw, are you sure you're not a dodge boy there big guy? you're awfully mis/uninformed for being a Ford SVT enthusiast
EDIT: btw, you don't honestly think the 24 inch wheels are going to make it into production do you? :punch:

My favorite German car that I owned was my most recent one. It was a 1999 Mercedes C43 moded of course.
I would never trade my Lightning for a German SUV, none of them are quick enough, except for the ML55
Western PA is a strange world, you must admit. One of my good friends lives in Corapolis(sp).

Got the numbers from Motor Trend ( http://www.trucktrend.com/editorial/...e.jsp?id=18158 ) and the Dodge numbers came from Dodge. If C&D got that much of a diff. than MT I would assume they probably will get better numbers from the Dodge as well. Considering there is only a 330lbs weight difference but 120HP and 50Lbs. Tq. more
As for the 24" wheels I think they stand a good chance, the Prowler runs on 20" now and it came out years ago :punch:. As for being a Dodge man...I respect the Viper and this truck but other than that they don't have any other performace vehicles that intrigue me. And like I said for the $ the Lightining would be my choice.
Sorry if I was misinformed not trying to step on Lightning toes I love that truck, but I also respect other American performance vehicles.

Thowing in my two cents worth on the SRT-10.........the picture contained in the link above looks nothing like the artists rendition of the prototype I saw 6 months ago. The one I saw and referred to was a rather boxy extra cab. This version looks much better.
As for the transmission.....I look forward to dropping the hammer on one in some Street/Stock action. Let's see how consistant they are and how well they run against their dial.
Now, concerning the L's numbers........ my truck ran 13.69 at 102 MPH three months after I bought it. That's with the tailgate on, solid tonneau cover, spare tire mounted, 3/4 tank of gas, and Goodyear F1s. The Lightning will run mid-13's all day long in stock form. Strip off a few hundred lbs. of dead weight, add some slicks, throw in some 110 octane and you've got low 13's.......easy.
Add a few simple bolt-on mods (chip, pulley, filter,..etc.) and you're in the 12's.
And don't think for one minute the SVT gang hasn't started plans for something to match it. Like maybe GT-40 heads and different cams for the Lightning making it a 32-valve, DOHC, 500 HP engine????
And just how much are these added mods going to add to the list price on one of these "affordable Lightings"??
