19 year old totals ford GT/Young people & Fast Cars
I got shit on the vetteforum for posting this up and my past. This is just to inform and kinda give a little perspective. In no way attempting to "show off" or anything. Just my story in light of this event.
I'm a young guy and have been fortunate enough to rock a c5 z06 for the past few years. Built motor, supercharged. Awesome car. Most would agree that a lot of responsibility needs to be realized when it comes to cars.
Via myspace, a kid my age (19-20) who I graduated with, posted these pictures, with the title "haha, not many can say they totalled a 150k dollar car. I can"
Although sick to my stomach, it did not surprise me. I think many would agree its not rare to see people get in over there heads. Yes, accidents happen, but also does knowing your limits. However, a hint of wheelspin and inexperience = overcorrection and a date with the wall. Looking at the picture for 2 seconds displayed the visual - getting on it, spinning, not knowing what to do. getting off the throttle and over correcting. thus throwing the back end into the wall and the spin to hit the front as well.
I messaged him to see what actually happened, low and behold, it was exactly what happened.
Overall, I just wanted to throw it out there as a reality check. Know your limits. Its not age or attitude, but respect and experience.

I know what you mean man. My car was making 500rwhp before my 20th birthday and I have a clean record, but unfortunately I'm in the minority of my friends with "fast" cars that keep them on the road.

Yea i know that stigma, Im 20 and got a 03 Cobra. Ive been in one accident in my previous Mustang GT with spray, but i got hit in the rear by a girl on a cell phone. Girls on cell phones that is a bad idea.

all the guys on corvetteforum hammered me when I posted it. A lot of bitterness I guess since they couldn't have those kinda cars when they were our age so we have to take the heat because we were fortunate and successful
i did the same in my 03, and im 24yo and have been driving rwd for a long long time now. I usually preach responsibility and cringe when people abuse their cars as i usually baby the piss out of mine, but yeah ive done my share of aggressive driving or high-risk maneuvers, and usually without a hitch. Everyone gets complacent in their abilities, but even when you think you have things under control and this slide is like all the others, its not. Nobody is invincible when it comes to driving like that, hell or even driving sanely, and sometimes we need something like this to slap us upside the head and put things back into perspective. Luckily for me, a parked car stopped my slide, and i ended up with a freshly painted and perfect looking front end where there used to be a chipped up front end resembling 70k worth of freeway driving. I sold it and am now going back to AWD, no fun in having a car thats useless in anything but hot 100* weather when the tires are their grippiest.
and to the OP; just cause it hasnt happened yet, doesnt mean it wont. You sound very cocky about your abilities cause you have had xxx amount of hp since xx years. your day will come when you think you have it all figured out and *Bam* someone that day had a oil leak right at the spot you were when you got on it, and thats all it will take to send you into an uncontrollable slide into a immovable object. and when all is said and done you will go "Man, wtf happened? It started out so normal but then it just got out from under me!" even high end racecar drivers lose control of their cars and say the exact same thing, "uhh, i was int he turn, went to come out and the car just came out from under me", and they have way more experience than any of us on this board.

Don't hurt your elbow while patting yourself on the back there, mate.
I'm 19 and although I'm not ballers like you guys (in the nice way) I respect any vehicle I'm in, it's that simple. No tickets, no accidents, I was even a private chauffer over the summer because I drive like a grandpa. But, it's the kids who get their license that have no respect for any car, not just the fast, powerful, exotic ones who get into trouble. You guys seem to have this respect, and as you acknowledge, know that most teens DO in fact drive like complete jackasses. So, honestly, this thread seems like a rather boring bowl of self-adorance and I can see why you were flamed.
how did you invest at 17 to be able to purchase a c5 zo6?
Pretty sure his parents probably picked it up for him. Pretty sure your not gonna get a loan for any car much less a C5Z at 17. I guess i could be wrong though.
haha long story short. ive been obsessed with cars from day one. when i was 9 i opened up a separate bank account strictly towards my first car. and my parents knew this. i didnt grow up with new tv's or video game systems or new skateboards. i just wanted money to put into my account. my dad is a financial adviser so i basically let him use my money to put wherever, and it worked in my favor.
along the way made some investment projects (bought some cars, fixed them up, sold them for more). once i was old enough to start working i worked as much as i could while still going to school... stopped going out and spending money, would come home for every meal, etc. etc. you'd be surpried how much you would save each month without spending money on food.
folks would help me out a little here and there but it was pretty much all me.
damn im 20 and i rock a 2004 cam&spray geared stalled full bolt on gto makin damn near600 and i worked hard as shit to get this car and all of my parts and that lil ****er got a ford gt for a first car....leave it up to people like that to **** shit up for the rest of the younger drivers.........oh yea if u havent priced a set of gears for the gto well it will make u want to just wanna say f- that

I was baught my first mustang at 18, v6, learned the hard way through the body shop how to not drive and race, that's a rough learning curve.
I baught a few GTs along the way to my cobra and learned crap can happen you have no control over, even while obeying all laws, like a chick blowing a tire and crossing 3 lanes infront of you on the highway causing you to send her over the wall in the pouring rain.
I made enough money and had enough credit to buy my current car before I turned 21 and have had my close calls while racing and driving perfectly normal.
No one is perfect. Theres a reason males under 25 are the hardest to insure, they don't pull statistics out of their asses. We take more risks, are more prone to testosterone prevoked choices, and like to go FAST.
While I get what you're saying about some guy in his 40s mashing the gas and crashing vs some kid that can handle his car properly you're fighting a losing battle.
I get flack all the time because of age and the power of the car I drive. Just suck it up and go with the flow. Trying to go against it or even trying to verbaly prove someone otherwise is a losing battle. If it's a race win it. If it's not keep your car shiny side up and they wont have a leg to stand on.

Or are your parents fortunate and successful? People get upset because they work hard their entire life for a car like that and a spoiled rich kid with an attitude like displayed in the quote you provided blows it off like it's nothing.
