I managed to get a decent run in with a friend tonight. He has an LS1 GTO with just an SLP catback. We were in a double turn lane (him on the inside and me on the outside). We're sitting there talking the whole time and the light turns green. He spots it first and leaves, I follow. After exiting the turn, he has at least 1.5 cars on me and then suddenly hits it. I wasn't expecting him to take off but I figured, "what the hell", and followed anyway. We ran up to about 80 before we shut it down and he had about a car on me.
I thought I did pretty good considering he was ahead AND got the jump
My car is an 02 GT w/ K&N CAI, catted MRT H, and welded-in flows
Seeing as it was just a "spur-of-the-moment" run, Im going to try and get him to run me in a real race (hopefully record it).
Doesn't surpise me much, the LS1 GTO's are pretty slow even with just a catback, we have one at our track running 9.3's (1/8th mile) which is slower then what I ran in my friends stock 95 LT1 :p (8.6)

Havn't been to the 1/4th yet with new setup.
You pulled over a car on a LS1 GTO with your three mods in an 02 GT? Was the GTO an auto? Are you a stick? That is the only reason I can think a 02 GT could pull one of those with your mods from a 40 punch (Their dead spot).
mr2, they have also trapped almost 107 stock in the 1/4. Of course they can run 9.3 in the 1/8, it's called a horrible driver; doesn't mean they are slow...

Not sure which ones you've seen but w/ a good driver ive seen them go 13.2-4's stock...To the op you hung in there well, it takes alot for a 2V GT to hang w/ a Ls1.

I wouldn't say they are pretty slow, they run dead even (stock vs stock) with Machs and 05+ GT's. the catback doens't add anything to the GTO, the stock catback is pretty good. I didn't think mid 13s were pretty slow for a stock car? However there are drivers out there that can make any car look slow as shit.

No I really didn't pull at all.....MAYBE a quarter carlength to half a length. I was just happy that he didn't pull away from me

Plus they make for a good run with a stock cobra...

Sorry I just wasn't impressed with the one at our track, he could just be a horrible driver.
Heres my buddies pullied lightning beating a LS2 GTO with an intake and headers (video says just intake but later we found out it had a set of headers)
About a month after the GTO added a 100 shot and my friend added a stall converter and drag radials and beat him ever worse, obviously due to the hole shot.

both cars are as slow as santas sled, so it does not matter who gets the jump. I drove a friends gto and I was not impressed at all, both cars should have come with at least some good gears. My vote is for the GT, put you some 3.73's or 4.10's and you will open her up, it's the best mod for the new edge IMO Now the 6.0 GTO is a differant story

True because the LS1 GTOs can't be made fast . . .

She traps 137mph. Figure out the rest . . .
W/ the factory tune once it gets above a certain temp, the motor pulls ridiculous timing. Making the car a dog.
The K&N or any CAI kit for that matter is a negligible upgrade on the car as the stock intake is actually pretty decent. There are a few companys (Vararam) that are making some pretty stout intakes for the car now. The LTs require a tune to be worth anything.
Your boy in the GTO doesn't know the car, so obviously he's going to get embarrassed.

He sold the GTO a long time ago, I think because he lost 4 times to the lightning, once when the GTO had an intake/headers, then the GTO added a 100shot, my friend in the Lightning added Nitto DR's and a higher stall converter and beat him even worse.

That's ok. That kid needed to sell his goat. He was giving us a bad name . . .

Well ive got another local GTO running 9.1's in the 1/8th that I will take video of next time, its only a LS1 but he is running on drag radials, he did win sportsman last time out and took home $150
lol. a LS1 GTO will dust a New edge GT with no problems even with light mods like you have. my buddy with a stock 04 ran a 13.5@105 and with an ebay intake, no cats, and maybe 100lbs weight reduction ran a 13.0@109.

I remember running you, Doc, back at Savannah in '04 I think. Your car with just a full exhaust and CAI ran a 8.2-8.4 didn't it?
I drove a friends '04 GTO M6 completely stock except for K&N CAI at an 1/8th mile track and ran consistant 8.8x's with it.
My buddies '02 Mustang GT with headers/offroad x-pipe/catback/pullies/throttlebody/CAI, got pulled about 8-9 cars from a 50-135 roll race, and lost by about 6-7 cars from 0-120 against that same '04 GTO that ran 8.8's and the '02 GT Mustang ran 9.1-9.3 in the 1/8th.
The '04 GTO's weren't all slow......but a '02 GT will get killed the further the race goes.....those dern LS1's pull hard in 3rd and 4th.....and a 2v 4.6 just dies.....
