I got a ticket this past sunday for doing 90 in a 70 (damm 3.73 with a ball-park spedometer). The ticket is $206.50 and I really thought it was going to be more than that and this is my first ticket btw. If I heard the cop correctly he said if I show proof of it being fixed they'll drop the charge with nothing against me.
For the guys who have been busted racing, did you have a radar detector? Serious question, no sarcasm

The First time i got ****ed up... My dumbass was hauling ass down a busy street racing 2 imports passed them in the turning lane...real dumb... Cop came up on me fast. I instantly pulled over...but my dumbass happened to pulle over in a dark street with no lights and a dead end and not a single house... I was like this isnt going to end well... cop yanked me out of my car putting my hand to the back of my head pretty much, smashed my head in the damn hood, shut off his stupid spot light, and started kicking my ass with handcuffs on... ****ing asshole, just started hitting me...put me in his car and i just started going off telling him his careers done...i was pissed... lol it was rather amusing afterwards i was like "WHAT A DICK!" then another cop showed up to the scene asked me what happened why im bleeding "i said your friend over there cant do his job right" he just said "hmm why were you racing?" i was like "i was being stupid but damn you guy over ther's got a anabolic rage problem" he just looked over and went and talked to the other cop for like almost 10 HOURS... then the asshole gets back in the car and ****er then tried being all nice to me after he was taking me to jail... asking me if the handcuffs are too tight? "i can pull over and loosen them for you" i was like nooooo just want this night to be over with... while im soaking in my own blood NO bs i was bleeding all over the place... I ****ed up tho i was hauling ass in the turning lane at like 80mph... i guess deserved the ass beating...besides after a night in jail I got released for no probable cause HMMMMMM?? wonder why??? lol
Best part of the night... Cop was doing the report at the station he says "how fast were you going" i was like... "hmm id say 25mph" he gave me a blank stare, to avoid another ass beating i said "alright dude chill 75mph"
But the best part, sitting in the cell this vato loco looking dude gets in there while i got a bag pressed against my face, looks like he also got his share of police theorpy for the night and asked me hwat I did, I said "racing"
he goes
Him "what kind of car you drive?"
Me: "corvette"
Him: "Odala is it blue?"
me "yes lol howd you know?"
Him: "Shit dawG I heard it on the radio hahaha"
One hell of night, they released me out of the jail with no shoe laces and walked to the nearest whataburger to wash up... some cop with some captain badges saw me and asked " not everyone walks around without shoe laces what you do?"
I said "street racing...im an ididot"
he asked while i was all bruised and cut and why do i have marks on my wrists
(i had deep cuts in my wrists)
I said "ehh... u know... cop was being a bit ruff"
he asked "did u resist?"
I was like "hell no i aint stupid"
he got pretty upset
he asked "did u get his badge number? whats his badge number?"
I said "no sorry didnt care to look... they let me go so im just going to take that and just go home but thanks"
Then the prime of the evening it started raining... my top was off the corvette when they impounded it..... **** my intieror was ruined...
That was a night...ill never forget...
Of course my mom was all wanting to go buck wild and press charges... i was like theres no point... ass beating beats longer time in jail and Huge ass ticket...Mind you this was years back...where i didnt realy think

I ended up getting an "exhibition of speed" ticket. Obviously since he had no radar on me, just the fact that I blew this chump away.
That's what happens when you roll the dice I guess. Snake eyes!
I would probably tell him that I didn't even get a chance to open it up before I hit the speed limit. Ask... how fast was I going? So you don't know? great! have a nice day!
Overall you got away cheap anyway. $180 is not bad. No reckless/careless. You can still go to court and beat it if you have time and motivation.

In Ohio, street racing is defined as 2 or more cars driving next to each other going a minimum of 15 mph over the speed limit. Granted cops will only stop you if it's a legit street race but still shitty that they have the authority to screw you like that if they choose.
Anyways, street racing ticket here is 12 points (automatic 1 year suspension) and a VERY hefty fine. They've been having a lot of trouble with it down in Columbus so the party got ruined for us up here.

Hmm... anyone on this site knows my views against abuse of authority and government force and the inherent right to defend oneself from such abuse with equal or greater force.
But I'd have to say I'd voluntarily stand there and accept an off the record ass beating if it meant getting away with something blatantly and exceedingly criminal that I know I'm 100% guilty of (eg: 100+ in a 35 or something retarded).
Bruises heal and don't cost anything or leave permanent records.
It's a 2 point violation and considering what you might have ended up with, consider yourself lucky. IF this is your only ticket in the last 3 years, your state might have the unsafe driving plea. which carries NO points but higher fine.

I have to go meet with the prosecutor tomorrow.
I have a lawyer from a firm that's already paid for through a business I'm involved with. He advised me to take a deal if I get one. But if I go to trial his services are already paid for so there's no economic concern other than losing and hiked insurance rates.
I've been through this before. I had a red light ticket 2 years ago..
What screwed me last time in court was his notes of what I said on the back of the ticket.
If you acknowledge anything he accuses you of doing they use it against you as a "confession of guilt" of the violation.
I tried to explain to them I was only trying to be cooperative with the officer but I never believed I had committed the offense.

Yeah...it is becoming very unpopular in my area to have any "V8" performance car. Guilty by association. Between the street racing laws, popularity of "green" environmental, and the need for cities to make money any way possible (ie tickets), makes for a bad situation. Just owning a performance car makes you evil and a criminal automatically.
Add that to the fact that some other Black Cobra which looks just like mine is tearing up the streets means I get constantly followed and pulled over for "road side inspections" and lots of questions.
I mostly race at tracks. And with my DOT race tires on, numbers on the car, I get pulled over. They ask, "what you doing". I respond, coming back from the track, what does it look like?? Blah Blah Blah.....getting old.
Reading all of your stories here, it just sounds crazy how criminal it is now to just even have a little fun in your car. I remember a day when cops didn't care at all and had bigger things to worry about. Oh well....thanks for letting me vent.
To OP, sounds like he didn't get you for speeding because it wasn't really a race. To bad it ended like that.
A good lawyer woulda got you off that forsure.. I have beat a few of those they never stick in court!! Just gotta be smart what you say to the cop when he comes to the window.... ie i dont know what you are talking about i wasnt racing.. I was not speeding officer, please let me see your radar.... oh you dont have radar.. then you take your ticket and be polite and come court day u walk our smiling!!!
