Common sense. Never owned any sort of radar detector/jammer/etc. Only ticket I've gotten in the Cobra was 52 in a 50. Nothing would have helped me out on that one.

... 2 mph over the speed limit? You coulda blamed that on a pair of shoes you're not used to driving with. I didn't know you could get pulled over for anything less than 5 mph.

I use common sense. You can't just put the pedal to the metal on Main street. I am considering a V1 but don't know if it would be worth the investment.

I want a passport but not for triple digits because I don't think it would save me then. I don't see how you guys say you don't do triple digits. If I was afraid of destroying my motor I would def give it all it had at least once.

Ive owned a V1 for three years and it paid itself back easily within the first year. So many times Ill be rolling along and the V1 will chirp and Ill reduce speed and 20 seconds later a stater will come around the corner gunning.

I've yet to find a "jammer" that works. I've been hunting the net for a while for one.

There is now a wax that goes over all the reflective points (lights/windshield/Windows) that supposedly breaks up what reflects the radar back to the unit. Haven't heard much on it, but that it's available or coming out soon.

I'll be getting a scanner sooner or later to see if that gives me any heads up as to where they're hiding..

Haven't had a problem yet, but I don't do trip digits very often either... just too risky. conditions have to be right. I pretty much use it just to not get caught up in a speed trap.

I have an older whister and a fair bit of experience with a few Passport 8500.

In my area I have to contend with generally no less than three potential ticketing authorities when on the roads. You have the City Police in the urban areas and photo radar, the RCMP in the rural areas, and Sheriffs have some overlap in both but are mainly rural.

In rural and highway settings, the radar detectors are worth their weight in gold in case you accidentally stray past the speed limit. In most cases they will give a fair 2-3 mile warning, but that doesn't protect you much from officers who bother to run in standby mode and only "ping" when they have line of sight. Your only hope is to catch a ping from someone ahead that he's hit just out of sight, you'll get a brief warning and that is it.

Be familiar with false hits in the areas you travel, and if there is no likely false emitter around and you get a Ka hit, slow down and look. Sometimes it's been a quite a distance before I've driven past the uniformed source of the signal.

In urban areas, technology is helpful but having your eyes open and using good judgement is most important, and luck, luck is good too.

Laser is a concern here but with a max effective range of about 400 yards (give or take) you'll generally see the setup well ahead of contact distance. A laser jammer would be cool but the thing that will defeat that is the visual estimation statement from an officer. LJ's might keep you from from getting nailed at the +/-15, but if a you're grossly overspeed expect problems.

Knock on wood, 11 years of driving and no citations, using my head and judgement, and I'm certainly not one who only drives "nicely".

i usually just tell the officer that i'm chuck norris's nephew.
seriously, i have a bell and it's paid for itself plenty of times over. my whole family has them now.
op, next time try posting this in lounge and you'll get a lot more views. its not technically about racing so it doesn't really even belong here..

^ unless lasers look impeccably like radar guns, they havent, i got gunned today by a bike cop (im fairly sure he would have pulled me over, but i was on the other side of a 4 foot median, lol) and he definately had a radar gun... i dont think many states have switched over to lasers at all.

edit, they do, but im still almost positive he had a radar gun...
