What "protection" do you use?

I'm sure most of you are like me, once and a while you like to push the limit for longer then a quick burst into the triple digits...

What are you using to keep your self aware of who's out there to catch you doing it? Scanners, Radar Jammers, Detectors, Hide-a-Plate covers etc etc.... Just curious as I've been watching some of the videos of the "cross country" racers, and they have all the nifty gadgets all over the car, and wondering what (if any) anyone here uses and how effective?

Common sense. I don't do triple digits for one, just quick burst from 1st through 2nd, sometimes half of 3rd, then coast for 30 mins after I freak out and realize things in my rear view are moving away way too fast :P That's the beauty of having an overwhelming power advantage over 99% of cars on the road, it's over before it gets carried away.

i have a standrd cobra radar.....it picks up the police. I dont do triple didget runs unless its a race, but theres a couple areas we race at where cops can not sit on the side. but other then that just a quick, 1-3 gets it outta my system lol.

Yup, more common sense. No gadget in the world is gonna save you from a cop catching you doing 100mph+ He doesn't need his radar gun to know you're going ridiculously fast.

If I'm doing more than 130, I'm going to take my chances because you're already going to be ****ed by the long dick of the law if they catch you.

i rarely open my cars up. but i still do. i hardly ever hit 100 or more but if i do its on roads im familiar with and with no traffic. if you speed all the time you'll get caught eventually. it took me a few tickets for it to finally sink in.

Thumbs Up

I have a cobra radar and laser detector but this is mostly to watch my speed in the 35-65 miles zones so I don't get carried away. I live in the NC area and I have a few roads that have a 70 mph speed limit and I may edge close to 90+ on a strecth but very rare. No triple digits. I agree with the others in that it is usually over by 3rd gear. My car is also a weekend nice weather car having only 11k miles on an 04 cobra. That being said I am not comfortable driving at high speeds. Also I do not want to cause any accidental damage even though I know the car can easily take the high speeds.

I have a V1 that I use, but I also don't run a front plate and my headlights fold up so I have like zero targets on the front of my car for laser. Haven't been stopped yet.

I have a radar detector that not gonna help you already going over 100. The place is key, I live in chicago so you hardly see cops, so I know what streets I can do what ever I want on. I took my car to school with me for a few weeks, and there are streets with just forest on both sides, I do not think I have gone from 20 to the end of 4th gear (138 or whatever it is) so many time in my life.

well, 99.999% of the time if I'm "speeding" its less than 8 mph over the speed limit.. for the times that I do "open" it up.. which will be WELL into the tripple digits, it's not for long, on roads that I know and where cops aren't known to hide and no place for them to hide.. I also run a Beltronics RX-65, and if it does go off.. SLOW DOWN ASAP..

that's kept me out of trouble in my performance cars since I started driving back in the mid 80's...

That's exactly what I've been watching. It's not that I'll go trying to break any "illegal" records, but some of the shit they have is cool as ****.. I'd like to know how they get all the "extra" shit for the navi systems.. there's some good shit there.

A friend of a friend of a friend type deal might get me to meet the owner of the RS8 Blackbird, and I'll hopefully get some info from him.. but we'll see how that plays out.. I dunno anyone past the initial friend, so who knows if it's even true...

I'm currently running a Cobra detector & using common sense. I'd like to add in a Bearcat scanner and a CB radio along with some fancy fancy lights and switches for those interesting times, like car shows! Yea that's it..

Fraternal Order of Police.. Kinda is a get outta jail free card depending on the officers involved. (name on the card, and officer currently attending to whatever you did) I've got quite a few FOP/PBA cards. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. If they do, sweet and I owe someone dinner, if they don't I owe my fiancee's boss a bottle of wine.
