"Staff Report
The Associated Press

ODESSA, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a man suspected in the fatal shooting of two Odessa police officers faces two counts of capital murder and three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer.

The suspect, 58-year-old Larry White, allegedly shot and killed two officers and critically injured another while they were responding to a domestic disturbance in an hours-long standoff last
night.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, which killed 48-year-old corporal Arlie Jones and corporal John "Scott" Gardner. A third officer -- corporal Abel Marquez -- remains hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the face.

Authorities say the shooting began after they responded to an incomplete 9-1-1 call made by a woman from White's home.

The officers weren't able to enter the house through the front door. When they tried to go in the back door, a man began firing at them. He then came out of the home and continued shooting before going back into the house, Mange said.

The officers were able to call for backup before being shot, Goodson said. Officials with DPS, Midland police, Ector County Sheriff's Office, Midland County Sheriff's Office and other
agencies responded to the scene.

The responding officers immediately called for backup and then shots were fired.
A perimeter was immediately established.

Approximately 10:30 pm the suspect at 2912 Ventura surrendered and is in police custody at Medical Center Hospital.

Two Odessa Police Officers are deceased; a third officer is in critical condition and is being transported to University Medical Center Hospital in Lubbock

The Texas Rangers are now the lead investigators and will release any further information regarding the incident.

The Odessa Police Department would like to thank the following agencies for their support:
The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Midland Police Department, the Ector County Independent School District Police, the Ector County Sheriff's Office, the Midland County Sheriff's Office, investigators with the Ector County Attorney's office and the District Attorney's office.

The Odessa Police Department would like to thank the citizens and residents in the neighborhood of Ventura for cooperating with law enforcement officers.

The Odessa Police Department would like to give a special thanks to all Odessa Police Officers who voluntarily responded to assist."

Here's another link to more info about it and about how much support showed up from around Texas for these three officers. I'm praying for their families.
