19 year old certainly don't make alot right out of high school, thats a fact, I was lucky to make 450-500 a week at my detailing job at a dealership, and that was putting 12 hour days in etc, Of coarse once I started doing my SAT Prep Program I had to cut back but still made decent money, no where's near were Id be able to afford a kid. this was right out of high school, I graduated from HS in 08, Ill be 19 in 10 days.

Wow, you are jumping to conclusions like crazy. I worked for my parents and got NOTHING handed to me. Why would you assume he gets things handed to him?

It doesn't matter how much money YOU made. He is not you. You can't compare that way.

I think you need to settle down and stay out of other people's business.

idk dude u seem to know more about his life than he does. who cares what he does, its not u. there's no predefined age for the appropriate time to have a child. if he says he has money and a stable financial/responsible life, then it's his choice. 3 1/2 years to be with someone is along time too, so they apparently have a stable relationship with eachother. and what are u jealous he has a family owned business? it wasnt his choice, it just happened that way.

i can say i fall into this category. i was 21 when my son was born. it was something that scared the crap out of me. from what i read of the other thread this guy is taking a lot better than i did.
i will say that being a dad is the best thing that has happened to me. i love my son and his mom and i got married last october. we have been together for the past 5 years and have been through a lot of crap, mostly because i'm an idiot. i'm very thankful for my situation. my wife and i don't make a lot of money but we work hard, have a house, pay for the bills, and make sure our son gets what he needs and sometimes what he wants(grandparents are awesome at buying toys, except for the ones that make noise and get to stay at our house) and are happy to do so.
don't judge somebody because you don't agree with what happened. stuff happens, he's manning up and looks forward to being a dad, why put him down? put yourself in his shoes and see what you would do.
that's my .02 rant and ramble

Would have been able to support a family, and would have been able to support a family comfortably are two different things. But then, "comfortably," has different meanings for different people as well.

I still wouldn't feel financially comfortable supporting a family having been working in engineering for more than a few years now. At the same time, many people are probably less materialistic than me and would be ok without some of the toys that I would hate to have to give up.

Without knowing the person, it's tough to really say for sure if he's ready or not. Most people are probably not ready at that age, but I've known a few that I think could have handled it. At the same time, even the ones who could have handled it are almost certainly better off having waited.

I definitely wouldn't encourage anyone to have children at that age, but until they are actually on welfare, I would refrain from actually passing judgment. For all we know, they may be perfectly capable.

Now, mocking laughter, to me, is fine. But I reserve the right to use mocking laughter on anyone having children, no matter what the age. Anything more than mocking laughter is going too far, though, until they've shown that they deserve it.

I would have loved to be fortunate enough to have a baby with a woman I love when I was 20-21. I know it's early to most but if conditions allow it, and you believe that you're ready, nobody should matter but you and your significant other. The way most responsible people go about having babies is, finish school, get a decent job/roof over your head, THEN make a baby!

IF you are one of the few that HAS all that, handed or not handed to you, by the age of 20-21, by all means, go for it!

However, sad truth is that the movie idiocracy wasnt that far fetched, dumb people are having babies left and right, while the smart ones wait to make money, build a home, **** 30 models, BEFORE settling!!!!!!..........

19/20 is too young to do most things.....have a kid....definitely.

Everyone's opinion/view is different, but I thinkg having a kid 25 or younger is too young, but things happen.

I don't think there is a set age to have kids. If you feel you are ready and that is what you want to do, that's what you should do.

I don't understand what makes the "magic age". Oh, I'm 28 now I should be ready to procreate!

It's different for everyone, some people are more mature than others at different ages.

My wife had our daughter when she was 20, she went on to get two degrees including a Masters from Texas Tech. We are both 29 now and enjoy being young parents. So its not always a bad thing.

So, are you upset that he got laid? I don't see why you are being such a judgemental jerk.

He has a job, so what if he got it through having connections, most people get them that way.

He is changing his financial plans to stop modding his car so he can be responsible and pay for his new kid.

Sounds like he has a better head on his shoulders than you do.

I've got to agree with fiveohhhstang on this one. Like others have said, these situations are circumstantial; no, I would not have been able to handle a kid at 20. I'm almost 24 now and still couldn't. But everybody has a different situation. I am enrolled full time in school still. This guy seems to have a steady job. He admits that it was a mistake. Now it just seems like he's trying to make the best of the conditions. It could happen to a LOT of people. You wanted opinions, so I'll voice mine. I think you were quite out of line in the thread. You voiced your opinion on how you thought it was dumb, but then you go on and on with "assumptions". You assumed he doesn't make much money, you assumed his g/f has no job, you assumed his parents hand him everything, etc. His particular situation may be different and may allow for him and his g/f to raise a child at a young age. But calling the guy stupid for getting his g/f pregnant was a bit too much. Seemed like you got WAY too involved in his thread, and I would have been pissed too if you came in my thread making the comments you did. I could ASSUME that you are somewhat jealous of his situation, since he is close to your age (and he IS older than you, by the way). But I try to steer clear of making assumptions about people I don't know anything about. Bottom line, my opinion, I agree with you on the fact that in MOST cases 20 years old is too young to raise a child. But you know NOTHING about this guy. Give him a break.

I am not jealous of anything I just think he could have been smarter about it when he was humpin the shit out of her, without much of a brain to wear a rubber and instead of busting a nut inside of her.

But hey everyone has their opinion and seems like the mass majority in here are somewhat 50/50.

Ever wonder why they call them accidents? You don't have to be balls deep bustin' a nut to get a girl pregnant. You have talked yourself into a corner and sound more and more ill-informed and foolish with each post. Just stop while you are ahead.

In my area girls are getting pregnant as early as 14/15. When I was in the 7th grade there were pregnant people. So 19/20 doesn't sound that bad of an age to me since its a lot better than 14. I've seen people who aren't over 18 with 2 kids already.

I don't get upset though and call people stupid since its their life and not mine.

Too young. I'm 21 and would be in a world of **** if I got my gf pregnant. I can barely afford the bills I have now as far as rent, utilities, cobra and all that other crap. Cash is getting tight recently the cobra might have to go, I refuse to slip up and have a kid until I am financially straight.

Thats what i decided to do when i had my daughter at 20. My gf was trying to keep me around so she didnt take her birth control and didnt tell me. Sure i was pissed about that but, im glad i did things the way i did. That was the happiest day of my life so far when i wheeled her down the hall out of the delivery room!! I think of it as, when shes 20 ill only be 40 not an old fart. If i did have a chance to do it over id wait until i had a house and a few years older.

I think of it as, when shes 20 ill only be 40 not an old fart. If i did have a chance to do it over id wait until i had a house and a few years older.
I used to worry about my gf doing that with her birth control but I give her the pill every morning before I leave for work. I know the pill aint 100% (before I get put on blast for saying I give her the pill every morning), nothing is, sometimes not a falcon punch lol, but its always best to try and be as careful as you can be.

Contemplating anonymous vasectomy and a week of vacation.
