My mom went to school with Kirk Hammett and Les Claypool?!?!
So I was looking through my mom's middle and high school yearbooks and apparently she went to school with Kirk Hammett, which as everyone should know, is the lead guitarist of Metallica
And she went to school with Les Claypool, who is the famous bassist from Primus.
Anyway, thought you guys might get a kick out of these old pictures of them from the yearbooks!!
That's bad-ass!!!!! I wonder if they would even remember her? Either way, that's cool as hell!!

I was curious about that as well! Les definitely does because my mom and him were next door neighbors. They all hung out in the same group and all the girls used to go over to Les' place on the weekends to watch all the boys play guitar haha.
Funny thing, anyone that knows Les' history, he actually tried out for Metallica's bassist position after their bassist died in that bus accident. Les and Kirk were great friends in school and Les' got beat out my Jason for the position.
youd be surprised what crazy shit our parents did.
My parents used to party with Steve Perry (lead singer of Journey) and have lots of stories (apparently Perry was a big puss and didnt like sports and whussed out in a radio baseball event). I think mom even said she once sold some "stuff" to Stevie Nicks. She was born and raised in the Bay Area as well, dad moved in his late teens from NY. They have so many stories, usually told around a campfire and im always raising the bs flag but usually my aunt and uncle also chime in to back them up, as they would all hang out at the same places.

If my dad wasn't already the most legit person in the world, Kirk Hammett would be cool to have in the family as well.... well only if he passed on his bomb ass guitar skills to me. I would like to be able to rip as well as he can hahaha

But yeah, our parents have crazy ass damn stories I tell ya! Your parents' stories sound awesome!

even funnier is i bet somehow, our parents likely know eachother.
All these people born/raised in the bay area that moved into the valley, like all know eachother through someone, theres maybe 1-2 degrees of separation. back then that generation the bay area wasnt that big of a place it seems, everyone in that scene pretty much knew everyone else.

That is very true! I am sure they overlapped somewhere. Good ol El Sobrante/Richmond kids hahaha
My Dad went to high school (Downey High) with James Hetfield.
My Mom went to High School (Bellflower High) with Chris Carter, creator of X-files. Chris Carter used classmates names as some of the characters in the X-Files movies.

I went to school with Jay Ratliff of the Dallas Cowboys. Almost got in a fight with him one time. I'm sure if it would have come to blows that I would of gotten my ass beat. He's a big Defensive Lineman now, but in H.S he was a fit Wide Reciever.

Hammet is WAAAYYY overrated. Give the guy non pentatonic riffs and he's lost. Claypool on the other hand is Legitimate.
While I might agree with your statement to some extent, that is just wrong. I don't think any of his solo's use pentatonic scales, and neither do a lot of the riffs I'm thinking of off the top of my head.
I'm more suprised that Kirk & Les go by their birthnames in the industry. ALOT of guys use stage names or tweak their name just a little. Pretty cool that these guys kept it real.

That's awesome. Although I am not a big celebrity person, IMHO they are all just extremely talented at what they do, and deserve to be recognized for it. It makes the world so much smaller when you have instances like that ^
haha

I will agree that Les is just straight badass. Because he is. Primus was never as big as they wanted to be, and on a few occasions he would still send his love to our family for the major holidays. Extremely down to earth guy I have heard.
While Hammett may not be rated correctly, he is still extremely talented. Publicity and fame always overrate musicians when they get to that point. Noone is ever as good as they are percieved... but they are still talented!

Yeah if you think about it, it is pretty weird. Although if I remember correctly, A LOT of the metal guys never went by stage names. I am not saying all, but at least a lot. The metal guys were never concerned I guess hahah
Well, My friend Pritchard (last name) played baseball with the one of the writers from Old School way back in the day in Chicago, and that writer named Dean Pritchard after him. Ol' Pritch is quite the character, so I can see the inspiration.
That and Brett Favre should up at a HS football game one time. That's all I got
