damn, thats no good, there was an explosion at one of the plants my room mates contracted at this week, and a pretty bad oil spill/shipwreck just down the road from my house last week, it shut down 1/3 of american oil production, the worlds a dangerous place.

This plant was still under construction and projected to be commercial early summer this year. I am a management personnel for the EPC contractor (we oversee the whole project) on the site so I am hardly ever there on the weekends. Unfortunately, there are many trades that do work 7 days a week. I have been on the phone all day with people on site and it appears there are now 4 confirmed fatalities. From what I gather, the testing & commissioning contractor was doing gas-blows and testing the natural gas pipe line and something went terribly wrong.
It is a very eerie feeling to see this all over the media because I have been there since November '08 and walk the site everyday.
Here is a picture taken from our closed-circuit camera shortly after the explosion:
I live about 20 miles from the plant and never heard or felt a thing. A woman in Mystic (50 miles away) said that she felt the shock wave. A real tragedy. Initial reports said 100+ were injured but fortunately that was nowhere near true. I think they said tonight that a dozen were injured. That's bad enough for sure. They also said on tonight's news that 5 people died. What a tragedy, but it could have been much worse when you consider how many people were there at the time.

It freaks me out everytime I see an accident like this...
I hope all those injured fully recover.

Any solid info on what happened out there? Was it a boiler? A gas main?

Its strange, because i heard the Mystic woman and people from far locations feel and hear the explosion...Im in Rocky Hill, about 5-10 minutes from where it happened and i didnt feel or hear a thing......strange...but yea the 100 injuries was wayyy off, thankfully it wasnt during the week, it would have been far worse for workers and people in that area
