last night we were discussing the pressure relief valve idea. we will probably be using one that will mount IN the cap. my guy will drill and tap a hole in the cap, to which the valve will thread in. looking as clean as possible of course. this will be a low cost option for those that want them and they can still be added any time up until the shipping date. we're looking to even be able to retrofit them onto our already shipped out 03 cobra tanks, for those that want them.

thanks for the pics and props Spawn

update:

these are still going through the build process, so no worries. they are well under way. my guy is still researching the pressure relief valve options. we're looking at ones that will fit IN the billet cap. we'd need to do at least 10 of them though, so we may just add it to every tank, for every vehicle from now on. might add $10 to each box.

of allll the other tanks out there on the market, for each type of vehicle (ie lightning, cobra, etc..), they use the fuel cell caps. those have internal pressure relief vents, not external. so no other tanks out there, that im aware of, even offer this i wonder how many times this has really been an issue for people. has anyone actually heard of this happening to someone?? post up a link if you can...

but if you guys want them, we'll definitely provide them.

and some people with 03 cobras have asked me if we can put npt style fittings instead of regular tubing. we can do that no problem. just for the cost of the parts, no mark up

oh, and since i havent even started collecting money on them yet (waiting to see what the final deal on the pressure relief valves is), ill still leave the GB pricing open to people who still want in. we have 4 tanks left unclaimed it looks like.

I have the same tank and I have a question.
How the hell do you polish yours without getting the polish (black residue) in where the etching is?
I've considered trying to paint the etching or seomthing.

Pressure in the tank would be from heat expanding the fluid-I dont think my fluid has ever gotten past 105 degrees-In the factory resivoir(bubble tank),But I have never road raced the car either.Anybody check the temp after a 20 minute beatdown?

ok, these are basically DONE. just need to have the caps welded on. almost all 20 have been spoken for already, but 1 or 2 still available.

the pressure relief valve has been holding these up

my guy and his machinist are working on one that will work like the factory system using our billet cap. the first one will probably be ready in a week or two. we dont want to hold up production any longer on these just for the few people who want the pressure relief valve; the shops want to get paid for the tanks that are pretty much done now. SO, we will continue to design that pressure relief valve cap. our caps are now interchangeable. (with the first run they werent). so, you can take a tank now, and then we can swap out the caps with you when the pressure relief valve is ready. (plus the cost of the valve). just keep in mind that it will limit the finish options on the cap once the valve is installed. likely to just natural billet or fully polished. we need to make at least 10 of these in order to get decent pricing. if only 2 or 3 people are interested in this, it will cost around $50 each. if 10 people are, probably $20 to $30. im really not sure this is entirely necessary as many people have been doing just fine without them for years now.

if you are a drag racer, you might want to have the tank ceramic coated. instead of having the tank powdercoated black, and then clear ceramic coated, we can have it done in black ceramic coating. this is $50 per tank, but will save you $10 from the 2 step process.

our main powdercoating/polishing vendor has not had good luck with black chrome on our tanks. i have another vendor that will do it (he does our chrome) but it will likely cost $100 for the finish.

PAYMENT. please prepare your payment NOW or i cannot hold your tank at the advertised price. it will also delay everyone else's from being finished until we have everyone corraled in. shouldnt be an issue though.

cost of the tank in raw or brushed finish is $250 shipped.

finish, NOT including the cap, for polished finish, gloss black, satin black, crinkle black or clear ceramic coating for only $30 more.
($10 extra for a powdercoating color not listed here)
crinkle red is available ($50) but sadly, crinkle blue is not

if you want the cap in natural billet finish, no charge. powdercoated, brushed or polished cap, $10 extra.

etching $20 (starting)

***NEW OPTION**** draincock delete. some people prefer to siphon the fluid out of the tank rather than drain it out all over the place. we can omit this from your tank and deduct $10 from the cost. if youre a serious drag racer, you're probably going to siphon the tank. if you want it just for show, and street driving, you probably wont be draining it anyways.

if you have the amount figured out, go ahead and send payment by either paypal or usps money order.

if youre unsure, please email me at info@trueforgedwheels with the options you want and i will verify the amount for you. if you've previously emailed me, i will attempt to retrieve it and answer it for you.

these should be ready to start shipping out in 2 weeks.

once payment is received, i will mark it as so on page 1 of this thread. until then, it will stay "pending".

Steve,

Thanks for the update. Is it too late to change your finish on these? I think I would prefer the black ceramic finish.

yes sir. if youre doing the whole tank in black ceramic, then just $10 extra.

if in standard black powdercoat, $10 extra.

another no cost option, we can do a brushed ring around the cap for no charge. it helps break things up a little if the tank is all one finish. looks like a nice brushed pinstripe

i cant find my stupid camera!

yesterday he brought over a cap installation/removal tool he had custom fabbed up, since he has to put so many on, and take off for pressure testing and welding and....

he said he can offer them for sale if people want one.

theyre 100% billet aluminum with delrin(?) plastic inserts that fit perfectly into the finger slots. you can turn the cap like a wrench into place, or to loosen it. (without scratching it).
if we have at least 10 people who want one, they'll be about $20-$30 in raw or brushed finish. we can have it polished as well and then custom etched. just an offer if people are interested

when i find my camera, ill post up pics.

Awesome!

Below is a link for thermal expansion rates of water. I'm kinda thinking the reliefs may really not be necessary.
