Hesitation at all RPM's

Test driving a car tonight. 2007 Mustang GT500.

modifications: Full Ford Racing suspension, 3:73 gears, ford racing shift, kooks long tube headers, catted x-pipe, magnaflow mufflers. Pulley (how do you tell the size), and a cold air intake (looks like steeda stuff)

While test driving at any rpm that I went wide open, it would pop and spudder throughout the rpm range. Do you think it could be as simple things as plugs? At idle there is tons of fumes. I can hear a slight ticking from the exhaust, most likely a small exhaust leak. Could that cause the hesitation?

What should I look for when purchasing a gt500 that already has such extensive mods? How can I make sure the clutch is good and I'm not going to blow up the motor?

Any tips would be nice, found a really good deal on her and ready to take her home tomorrow.

Josh

It could very well be the plugs, How many miles? Also, the CAI might be leaking after the MAF.

9,300 miles on the car.

It was dark, couldn't really tell on the cold air. But didn't look like a high quality, jlt, c&l type set up. Is there a particular intake that people are having problems with?

I would take a look at the plugs. Did you see what tuner was with it? I'm hoping it has a tune for the mods you listed!
It's not uncommon for any intake to leak if they don't pay attention whe putting it back together. It's easy to have a clamp slip off when tighening it.

What's great is the guy brought all his stock parts with the car. Air intake, springs, shocks, etc. There is a SCT tuner as well, looks like the X3 or SF.. need to look at it closer.

IMO. You need to get her on a dyno before laying any beans down
perhaps the problem is simple or NOT

+1 take it to a shop that can let you know what it is before you buy it

Sounds like a very lean condition,Hopefully it can be worked out.I would ask for a compression check/Spark plug change at a minimum.

I put factory plugs in it, seemed to have cured it. However, I'm scared that factory plugs are not cool enough.

You'll be fine with the stockers. They are a good platinum plug, and well within the heat range for your mods. If you had a 3.4 whip or KB running real high boost, then I'd be a little concerned.
