I wash under the hood everytime the car gets washed. Only have 18,000kms on the car so its easy to keep clean.
I use an old shammy that is damp to wipe everything down. I don't like the greasy shiny look. The road dust just sticks to it and looks like shit asap.
Just a little soap and water from the presure washer and a good wipe down everytime and it will be easy.
If you only wash it every now and then the aluminum starts to get ugly and faded and you will never I don't care what you use get it to shine like it was when it was new.
PS my car never see's rain or a dirty road so it makes it really easy!

If i'm in a car show I will use an Armor All wet wipe that I let sit out in the sun for a bit and dry up. It gives you a deeper look without the greasy feel.

I never cover anything up either, I just spray everything down with simple green and let it sit for a few minutes. I take my craftsman powerwasher and go to town, I don't spray directly into anything but I do use a little pressure here and there. It always comes out showroom new.

After I take my electric leaf blower that I dry the whole car with and dry the motor bay, ill take a small bit of 303 on a towel and do all the black plastic with it and of course, polish my blower!

This was right after I did it one day:

I usually dont use anything but water. I do it every time I was the car though. If something is dirty for some reason, I use a little simple green. Then I just wipe it down with a cloth with a little bit of armour all.

I also use simple green and water. For rubber and plastic some tire shine or vinyl protectant.
Here is my engine bay: http://s413.photobucket.com/albums/p...t=DSC09845.jpg

I use Adam's Polishes All Purpose Cleaner on my engine.....then i do any plastics/rubber with their Vinyl/Rubber/Tire dressing.....it doesnt attract dirt and gives them a low gloss shine.....ive only cleaned my engine bay once with it so i would imagine after after a few more washes it'll start to look like brand new again.....i go to alot of car shows and i cant stand the rest of the truck being clean and not the engine area.

Here's a few pics of mine. I use the same basic method as everybody else: Simple green, mother polish on the blower pulley/oil cap/IC reservior, and protectant on all the black and rubber pieces...

An old pic from a couple of years ago....

A few more recent ones...

i agree with the degreaser method, but instead of the tire shine or armor all which can rot your hoses i use stoner trim shine. You can find it at kragen and this is specifically made to shine rubber and plastic trim without damaging anything! this is from my old car......

by the way its an 11 year old engine compartment

I clean it everytime I clean the car so it usually just needs a nice little wipedown with some water.

ok so ive tried this technique out and i did this on my sixer but scared to do it on my gt. this is what i did...i sprayed purple power degreaser over whole engine back then let sit for 10 minutes then sprayed light flow of water over everything, closed hood an started car for 15 minutes...i popped hood an the tire shine was still there alittle bit but it looked 10 times better. my question is did i need to let the engine warm up longer an then it will go away?

and my second question is on my gt i have an accufab chrome tb an plenium an i did this routine to it before again using purple power an it like completely destroyed the chrome on my accufab tb an plenium..it doesnt shine the same an is like faded...ive looked at the pics of everyone else an their chrome seems to be fine? any ideas on how to fix this an how does the degreaser mess up chrome?

any help will be appreciated
