help with pitting and scratches please.

i suppose for a 13 year old paint job, my car looks pretty good, i clay and wax often, and spay detail weekly. However,i have some very minor clear coat pitting and some standard black paint swirls. So whats the best way to tackle this? With a PC, or does most of this sound like a scratch x fix. let me know what you think.

You will need a PC to really make any progress.

Meg's 'new' M105/205 really is a good combo in total. You'll need 2-orange and 1-white LC CCS 5.5" pads to make the job go smoothly.

Also, with a black car...almost never QD it unless it's just very "light" dust. Otherwise you will wind up with micromarring, even when using quality MF towels.

You really can't do much about the pitting, but you can 'lessen' the amount that you see it. M105 will take care of it for the most part and you *may* choose to be brave and use some 1500 grit 3M or Meg's sandpaper and wetsand the worst area that bothers you the most. Otherwise you'll kinda just have to live with it.

Once you polish the car, do some research and really pay attention to your washing technique so you don't re introduce the scratches/swirls.

Best of luck!

good tips, im looking into a pc, but i'm also new to the pads and the compounds. And i only QD light pollen and dust and i use extreme caution. I can live with the pitting, its almost unnoticeable unless your inches away.

id suggest getting the PorterCable 7424XP with the Optimum Products Kit (CompoundII, PolishII and Poly-Seal), about 2-3 more orange pads, 2 more white pads, a pack of microfibers from Autozone, some Natty's Red and a microfiber applicator sponge or two. Seeing you are black, might want to look into how to wash/dry without scratching/marring the finish to keep your car swirl free. Oh and pick up a 1000w tripod shop lamp from Lowes/Home Depot for around $40, it will help you see the imperfections/swirls in the paint in the garage as if you were viewing it in direct sunlight.
