you can go to parts store and pay 40 for some cheap looking blue lights, but will make you mad cause they just tint the glass. they give less light output than reg bulbs. dont go for the looks go for the real deal! spend 25 more and have the real thing just look online like xtremehids.com and you need a 9007 bulb up to you if you want the bixenon kit it just cost more. and go for a 5000k to 6000k color temp, you will get bright white light with a hint of blue. or go dark blue and less light but get cops attention.

or get real HID's or even better, a projector retrofit with HID's...

Only problem I see is that the retrofits I have seen in mustang housings look pretty bad. Something about a projector in this lens just doesn't look right, IMO.

The light output cannot be rivaled, though.

wholeheartedly agree. It looks bad.

however when youre driving late night through pitch black twisties with real HID's in their proper projectors, theres a point in which you realize you dont give a shit what your housings look like anymore.

Haha. So true. I did a similiar thing, but my projectors look great. I took depo headlamps for the sn95, pulled of the clear lens, and put smoked blue oval industry lenses on them. I did a somewhat decent job and you can't see the projector behind the lense thus giving it a clean look.

www.hidguy.net ftw (best customer service & top of the line kits)

Sylvania SilverStar Ultra's are the best you can do with a bulb.

Honestly, they're pretty dang close to HID in terms of color-tones.

The *quality* of the light isn't quite there, but I'd give it 85% of HID in total.

i disagree, ive owned em both, siverstars are more pure white and lack the exotic (bluish) look of hids. I have bought tons of bulbs over the years, and the above nokya's are the closest ive gotten to HIDS in terms of colors.

However silverstars put out way brighter light than stock.

and in my jeep commander, i have 6000k HIDs in the lows and siverstars in the highs, the color is not even close, most factory hid's are 4300k - 5000k, id say a silverstar is about 4000k

Well, fwiw, my SilverStar Ultra's match up pretty well overall to the '09 GT500 OEM HID's. Which, I don't know the details on the Ford HID's, but they're a fairly 'pure' white without as much blue tinge like some other HID's I've seen.

one more thing to mention, HID's use less power than traditional halogen lamps. especially those high output models.

id like to see some pictures of your set up...sounds intriguing. All of these retrofit projector projects usually end up costing way to much to justify them.

silverstar ultras are a VERY good bulb. I run them because I dont want to spend the money on HID's and if you tried them out Id bet you would be pretty content with their performance. Almost a pure white light and they put out a shit load of light for being a halogen type bulb. I forgot about buying HIDs after installing these.

I would also like to add that these headlamps were designed for use with halogen style bulbs and will be more efficient with a halogen vs. HID.

Fact is no halogen is ever going to touch an HID bulb ever. Those who say its close don't own an HID kit on there car. I used to feel the same way till I added an hid kit to my fogs and headlights and its not even a contest.
