DSG/Grey color'd Fords- Best cleaning and what to use?
I've got an 04 Mach 1 thats a D.S.G. I'm wanting to know what other people with this color or similar grays use to clean their vehicle? Everything down to the wax, hand polish, drying methods, sealing detailer, ect. Anything you or your friends use for the best finish on these paints. I've seen alot of threads about Blacks, Reds, and Whites, but never anything on the Grays! Please include pictures if you like and/or write-ups on your cleaning methods.
I'll start off,
04 Mach 1 D.S.G.
.What I usually do is wash the car with Meguires car wash soap.
.Thoughly rinse the car down after, and clean the water from the soap bucket.
.Then Clay Bar with the spray (Meguires).
.Wash the car again, rinse.
.Then wax the car with Meguires wax kit (included with the clay bar kit).
.Let sit for about 30min (entire car)-> Was thinking about letting it sit on longer possibly, anybody know whats to short, or whats to long of a time for sitting wax?
.Buff off the wax with microfiber towels.
.And use a quick detailer (Usually Meguires, have used ICE, but like Meguires Better)
Also I use Meguires "Back to Black" for my:
.Shaker Hood Scoop
.Front Lip
.Wiper Cowl
.Mirrors
.Mach 1 grill delete black part
on my dsg mach... i would use red moose glaze by hand & p21s wax by hand. i neverd DD the car so, i didnt see no use for a sealer? i would dry it with a Waffle Weave... nxt tire shine one the tire's...p21s wax on the black stuff like Wiper Cowl,Mirrors Mach 1 grill delete black part... i would use a can of 2 dollor tire foam shine for the inner finder well's,gas tank cover & shaker & chin

The cleaner wax that Meg's clay comes with is pretty good stuff for what it is, but it doesn't last all that long. I would look into getting a sealer for DSG, or any color thats got metallic in it. It makes the flake pop a bit more, where a nuba wax will give the paint a warmer look, but will take away from the metallic.

I don't have experience with that many products, but the next one I'm going to try out is Blackfire Wet Diamond, I've heard nothing but great things about it. I would give that a shot.
from what i heard if u want to make ur flakes pop, u have to use a selant...
use some red moose glaze its made for dark color car's, theres a carnauba wax calld petes 53 black pearl, its made for darker paints and metallic paint finishes. it wont make ur flakes pop like a sealant but it will look very warm and rich...
OP, you're thinking to far into it. I know exactly how you feel, there's enough information and products out there to make you never want to buy anything because there might be something better. The best thing I can tell you is, the way you're going to get your paint to look flawless, is 95% prep and 5% wax/sealer. I would look into getting the new PC4737XP and some poorboys SSR 2.5 and SSR 1, PB's stuff is very user friendly, and you'll get results the first time with them. Once you polish your paint and get rid of swirls, holograms, w.e imperfections you've got, than you seal the paint, you'll be amazed.
Just don't think so much about it, you'll get a head ache, trust me.

Haha, thanks man. Yea I'll check it out when im ready for my next cleaner set. Im guessing the PB is something you can order online and not find at the local auto stores?
I'm lucky enough that PB headquarters is a mile from my house, but yes you have to order it online. I don't think you'll find Blackfire anywhere locally either though.

I applied Purple Haze to my Dark Shadow Gray 03 Cobra and the result was flat out amazing! I applied two coats by hand (literally) and the final finish now looks deeper than ever. The metallic in the paint pops like never before and the depth is simply amazing. I can't speak about the durability at this point, but I gotta be honest, I don't think I care. It looks so good and is so easy to use, I really don't mind applying it again if need be.
i tried the optimum poly-seal,followed with the opti-seal, on my white truck and was happy with it. the cobra is getting done soon
Opti-Seal and Poli-Seal are what I use on my car. Good stuff.
Not the best pics as they were taken on a kinda overcast day, but if you look at the front fascia in the first one and the rear bumper in the second the reflectivity of the paint is awesome. Also, the flake in DSG paint really stands out and pops when the sun hits it after a sealant has been applied. The first time I applied the Poli-Seal but before applying the Opti-Seal I was like "eh, just another wax." But once you start applying the Opti-Seal the paint comes alive and begins to look wet with a super deep gloss.

Just to prove a point to you, these 2 pictures are taken with no wax, no sealant, I was in the middle of polishing and the sunset was to perfect not to go take some pictures.
Just buy something already lol, try blackfire, I'm sure you'll be amazed at the looks, and it lasts about 6 months. How can you go wrong.
