What is max rpms for new engine with out damage I know the redline is 6900 but what r you guys running them to without issues. Also what are the common problems with these cars.

Where did you order from here in Iowa?

I just signed the papers for the same color and options at Dewey in Ankeny yesterday... they found one for me in Illinois, they're bringing it in on Monday.

I would go with the SCT SF3 tuner. It just plain works and you can get your tune from any number of great vendors like Steeda Bama,BBR,Amazon etc.

If you want to keep the warranty fully intact, get the Ford Racing Tuner/Tune/ Filter and GT 500 Axlebacks if you like them, and have it installed at delivery....

Ask your tuner what tuning software he uses, (SCT,Diablo etc.) that will dictate what tuner to buy.

Look into Amazon Tuning as they are really great about you data logging your tune and sending it to them for corrections. Very experienced tuner with safe tunes and just great drivability.

Isn't American Muscle/Bama offering some kind of warranty with their tunes now? I love my Bama tunes. Any of the vendors on this site are very reputable and can set you up with a great tune. Some of the 2011-2012 (mostly 2011) cars are having issues with the manual transmission. It's a really hit or miss problem though, mine is flawless along with many others. Some have had issues with the #8 cylinder due to tuning and fuel octane issues. I haven't seen many of them for a while though. Good luck and have fun!

countless tuners have tunes for the car but not all are created equal. American muscle offers a 3 year 36K mile warranty protecting you from having to pay for a new engine out of warranty if cylinder #8 fails (which is currently the only issue that I know of that these engines are having)

Ford racing tune is NOT COVERED UNDER YOUR FACTORY WARRANTY though. ford racing is a totally separate entity and if your DEALER installs the tune, you get a 12 month warranty against failure that FORD RACING will foot the bill for, not ford motor company. One guy on another forum blew #8 with a FRPP tune and the dealer replaced the engine and reloaded the tune without any questions so that would be another safe bet.

I've heard very good things from local guys about Livernois' tune as well, favorable vs Bama and Lund tunes.

I've also yet to hear anything bad about steeda's tune so that would be another option though like with livernois and lund, don't expect any financial assistance if somethign goes wrong and ford blames it on the tune.

Lastly, despite what you may read on other threads, ford CAN tell if you reflash your ECU back to the factory tune so you can't fool them if you go in for a problem with the engine by flashing back to stock and expecting them to fix it without checking the ECU. You may get lucky or you may not. They've been instructed to check the ECU though at this point due to all the tunes blowing #8.

edit I almost forgot: though unsubstantiated at this point, I would wait a few thousand miles worth of driving the car to determine what type of oil consumption the engine has. I have a hunch that the guys who have abnormally high amounts of oil being burned (some guys burning over 1 qt per 1000 miles) are prime candidates for a #8 failure. Again, I have no proof that the two are related but I see no way that a properly functioning engine can burn that amount of oil and not have something internally not quite right.

1 issue Pony, if the Ford Racing Tune [FRPP] is installed at the time of delivery by the selling Ford Dealer, on a new car, the Full Ford Factory Warranty remains intact. Several friends have done it on their new 5.0's and I did it on my new 09 GT500. [Put down 500 Rwhp and 473 Rwtq, Sae on a Dynojet, under 2000 miles on my Shelby, very good numbers with excellent driveability. In fact my dealer said I had 30 days to make the decision and still be covered, and he confirmed it with Ford. To be safe I put it into the paper work and brought it back for the install 2 weeks later. The usual labor charge on a new 5.0 is 1-1.5 hours labor depending if you get the Axle-backs or not...The FRPP Tune, Pro-cal Tuner and Filter is a steal at under $ 300.00 from Buy Ford Racing.com + Labor, see above....Get the selling dealer to match their pricing on the Tune, worked for me.

These are all very good points and something to consider when tuning your new 5.0. We have thousands of 5.0s running around the world with no issues other than irregular tirewear

Our tune files are derived from dynoing our own 2011GT with all the different parts available in the market. This allowed us to nail down these tunes, so that they are safe, powerful and fun!

My best time to date in the 1/4 was a 12.7 @ 109 mph with a 1.85 60' (launched at 4500 and spun through first on MT ET street radials). DA was 4000+ feet. I think the corrected time came out around 12.0-12.1 @ 114. A better 60' would have put me well into the 11s. I only got to make 3 passes that night in the quarter and the track wasn't prepped well.

Even better than my times is the fact that I have run around with the race tune since I got the programmer and the driveability is like stock. Very smooth when commuting and it absolutely tears shit up when I get on it or take it to the track.

This post made my head hurt. Can you attempt to use punctuation? If you are worried about warranty and "blowen" your engine, then I would advise you to keep it stock.
