Ford Racing CAI vs K&N or BBK or JLT??

    Help!!
I am trying to decide if I should only put in a CAI kit from K&N, BBK, or JLt for approx $300 plus custom tune or go for the Ford Racing CAI kit (M-9603-SVT07) with 113mm mass air sensor housing with custom Pro-Cal calibration giving 40hp/30lb-ft for $700?? The Ford Racing guys claim they have done alot of tesdting/work to give the best product offer??
I am looking for improved throttle response/performance and sound. I have replaced axle back mufflers with Borla Stingers - good start to sound.

What are some "average" stock RWHP numbers I should have on my 07 Shelby convertible - about 425hp ??
    Thanks, Ron

I recommend getting the ford racing cai. It has the best fit of any others on the market. 2nd I would get a custom tune for it. A custom tune for the frpp cai will make more power than the procal tune.

    +1 for the ford cai.
I do like the ford tune it is safe and will pass emissions.(and you know for sure the tune is done right)
Aftermarket tunes will make more power and are a good option, just make sure you do your homework if going with an aftermarket tune.
Don't be fooled with just a dyno number.
Dyno number's are nice but that doesn't always mean the tune is better.

Get the Ford Racing cai and a tune from Lund or VMP.You might as well do a pulley swap while you're at it, its a cheap mod and with the cai and tune it really wakes the car up.

    425-435 stock.

    K&N= not my recommendation
    BBK= same thing
FORD= nice piece. If you're never going to add much power, it's well built but too small for any serious power.

The Pro-cal tuner is a brick. The upside is the actual calibration is very good. Extremely sedate, but good.
The tuner unit and a loaded Ford calibration has no user adjustment.

Custom tune/SCT handheld and cold air. While you may see a 40 rwhp increase over stock with Fords kit, you'll see more like 70 with a custom tune from one of the two or three biggest calibrators.

We sell more JLT than other brand cold air units because of the quality and appearance.

Plus, if you buy something like their 123mm unit you have enough headroom for future mods/power /growth.

We leave a number of owner choices available with our calibration and SCT units ; add spark, fuel at wot, rpm and speed limits, fan speeds, tire size, gear ratio, etc.

We are a custom tuning and supercharger company, so I would point you toward custom calibration.

And if it were my money, I wouldn't dream of spending $700+ for the gains of the Ford kit. At that level, I suggest you leave the power alone and use your money toward fixing the known suspension issues on your GT500.

I own a 07. One of the first 500 built in June of 06. My car has been a guinea pig for Ford, JLT, Metco, J&M, BMR, Lund, Pauls High Performance, Bogart, M&H, Posi Performance Porting and VMP Tuning.

    Been there, done that.

LOTS of track time, real life use and R&D.

    We have two 07 GT500, a 13 GT500, a 5.0 GT, a Boss 302 and a Raptor as our test beds.

Let me know if we can help you in any way.

BJ good post, although I think more JLT's are sold because the price . (Yes it is a good option)
Most vendors don't sell many others because there is not as much profit margin and the overall price.
There are other options IMO if price alone is not a factor in the 123 that yield superior flow and performance.(Such as the Whipple 123 and Ford racing 123 , both are excellent pieces too. Both have more MAF range/flow than the JLT123/127).

BJ. Nice explanation. I use Pauls high performance for everything and they seem to do a lot of testing too. Didn't know you guys worked together. They are porting my eaton here in a week or two.

I would def. Go for the bigger CAI. Don't wanna have to replace it when you get bored again with 40 plus hp.

I've had a JLT since 07 with no problems what so ever. I did change out pulleys in '11 with a VMP pulley and NEW tune from VMP incorporating all the changes including the JLT CAI.
I could not be happier with my set up, fit, finish and performance from JLT and from VMP tuning, and I know dozens of owners that run JLT/VMP and are very happy.

Do you have emission testing ??? The Ford Racing Procal Kit has an EO number. I have it on my 09. 500 Rwhp/473 Rwtq on a Dynojet, SAE, at RET. It's one option, so are the Kits available from BJ at VMP and Van at Revan.

I tried many different ones on my 11, like the Ford resonator delete kit, until I went up in power. From there I tried the JLT 127, but did not get it the way I wanted it. I finally went with the Tasca 123 housing, and a Cobra Jet inlet. It worked perfectly.

Lot of kits out there, just match up with what works for you.

Jay and I might disagree about oil separators, lol, but I will always run a JLT INTAKE on my mustangs! I had 2 on my car (changed out for the larger one when I went to the kenne bell) and always got great results on the dyno and at car shows (dropping jaws, being asked if anyones kid ever got pulled into it, hahaha).

They are great company to deal with directly, or though any of the great vendors on SVTP that sell their products.

JLT all the way. Not only are they our best selling intakes by a large percentage but we run them on our own cars and they perform excellent as well as look great too.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Another vote for the jlt, it's a bigger intake with room to grow if you ever decide to upgrade your blower plus it looks the best, imo.

I wouldn't mind a replacement tube for the upper part of the FRPP, especially with the 123mm MAF.

What would be nice if whipple would release the MAF-Shield that it sales with the Whipple kits. Looks OEM like the stock 11~13, but is 123.
