Its alot louder in person but you can hear it if you listen closely. Dont mind me reving the hell out of the car but I wanted a little video of the exhaust before I tore it apart. Notice the smoke also, it never done that before.
Well today I hung my 3 lights, organized all my tools, and got the car up on jack stands...
Here is my equipment for the major parts..
Cherry picker, engine stand and air compressor.
Tomorrow hopefully will be the removal however I will probably settle with getting the transmission, drive shaft, exhaust, and hood removed.
Ended up getting the hood off tonight...

So I have slowly been working away at this project. First thing is I am very impressed with the ease of this so far. I have been able to do every part of the work myself with out the help of anybody. I also have maybe 3 total hours tied up in this. The motor currently sits ready to be pulled, however I am getting pretty sick so I think its going to delay things. Only reason its not out yet is cause I have been debating the steering shaft through the headers issue. I dont know if I need to drop the k-member or if there is another way to get around it. I think I am just going to try and wiggle it out on the way up.
Here are some updated pics.
Gotta love that...
All the coolant stuff removed...
Everything removed ready to be taken out of the car
Steering shaft in the header issue
Transmission is out and everything is disconnected ready to go..
Here is maybe a slight explanation of whats wrong...
Thats a little bit of oil built up in there...
And there also. Maybe I destroyed a ring land?
I know you like my flamer creepy crawler. lol $30 at harbor freight.

Well I spent V-day working on the car. I finally got the engine out and on the stand. I started tearing it down but I do not have any pics of that. To my surprise again it was a very simple task. The steering shaft came out of the car after I disconnected it inside the cabin.
So far the hardest part of the job was squeezing my fat hand down the passenger side of the engine to connect the chain to the engine to pull the motor out. All work has been performed by myself.

Tore the engine apart, look what I have found...
Okay so when I first pulled the head I seen this guy just sitting there. I know it wasnt in there when the motor was running cause obviously its not all beat up. I think it came out of my blower/lower intake cause I have always had a rattling noise from there. I still have not been able to find where on the engine it came from. The head looks perfect, however I have not pulled the blower from the lower yet
See the head is clean so I know I didnt have it in there when the car was running..
See the left side of the piston? Thats probably the noise I was hearing, I think the bearing on the crank gave way just enough to let the piston hit the head.
Slight scaring in the piston wall.
Little milk in the oil pan, probably from condensation.
The middle ring of the piston in question is stuck in, or compressed to the piston. All the other pistons it is out but this one it is sorta jammed in.
And the goods....
Too be continued....

I used to own a performance shop, I have all the tools and knowledge so that and my factory shop manual Im sure I should be able to knock it all out just short of all the machine work.

Car only has 43k miles on it. First modded it with an upper at 14k and a few bolts ons, and then August 07 I did the ported, spray, fuel, lower mods with about 35k on it. So the car really didnt hold up at all like I expected it to.
dont even screw with the steering shaft on the way out i tried that the first time i pulled my engine, but realized it was easier just to take it out before pulling it. When i pulled it a few months ago for the second time around i just took the steering shaft out first made things wayy eaiser!

What is your target date for the car to be back on the road? Best of luck with the rebuild. Should get you a motor that will be able to take more than the last one.

Good luck with the build... In that one pic it looks like someone wasn't too careful with lift pads where the pinch weld meets the side skirts?
