KB 2.4 questions

in process of doing a deal on a kb 2.4 i wanted a 2.2 but this come up, im looking to get 575-580 whp. now i have a ported blower now making just about 500whp, im looking to upgrade for more effiency and better cooling over eaton, im not looking to run 24 psi. question is what hp am i good til on stock fuel and clutch setup, the cr is sreet driven and hardly ever at the track. agian im not looking for huge big boost just maybe 15 psi?

You can probably make that on 18psi with pump gas still. The 2.4 does make a ton of heat, I was always fighting the iat's with mine but it was pullied around 22lbs though

By stock fuel do you mean the stock fuel set up? Like stock pumps, no BAP, 39# injectors, etc...If so, I would think you are almost at max HP already on the stock fuel set up.

You are not going to make 575 - 580RWHP without upgrading fuel delivery.

does the 2.4 really get that hot? i do have a bit of fuel room left i wasnt maxed out or close to it on the dyno. a/f is like 11.3-11.5. i would run a bp.with stock pumps and stock injectors for a bit til i eventually get the 55's or 60's

I've always heard the 2.4s are the heat monsters of the group.

So were 2.4's bad blowers? Weren't they a little more efficent than the 2.2's? I believe that they didn't have quite the screem of the 2.2's?

Depends what your definition of efficent means. My little 2.2l made 617 / 577 on 15* Timing in a shop @ 101* F. I got a buddy who made 643 / 613 on his little 2.2l also in Louisiana.

Out of what I have read, the 2.4's are known to make the most heat out of the 2.2s, 2.6s, and 2.8s. They are good blowers, they seem to make about the same power as everything else just real easy to heat soak them basically and correct they don't scream like the 2.2l.

As has already been pointed the TS blowers don't always equal less heat. Everybody is quick to down the Eaton and call it a hot box, but the TS cars often have issues fighting charge temps as rtusnake pointed out. They do make more power, especially when you start spinning them harder. But don't go buying one for temp reasons.

With the stock fuel system I wouldn't even bother with a TS. Even spinning it at 13-15lbs you're going to need a MAFia and BAP bare minimum, you might be able to skate by on stock injectors but it would be close.

If you can get a good deal on it I say go for it. If you're brave maybe you could port it some, and make more power with cooler iat's at any given psi.

There's no point in upgrading to a TS if that's all your going to run.

Chris you keep saying that the blower made 617/577, but wasn't that with the AF leaning out to like ~12's?? Just wondering...I thought I read that somewhere you posted....

There is nothing wrong with a 12.0 A/F.

The first day I got it tuned, he couldn't get the A/F down, yes. We took a stab at it again a few days later and got it down to 11.6-11.8.

I wasn't real happy with the tunes I got so then I made the trip down to HPP last weekend and got it re-tuned by Manny and the A/Fs are straight as an Arrow.

Not sure why really. I know my 2.2 was hot as well, just not as much as the 2.4. I trapped 141 with my 2.4 in 50 degree weather
